Forums - Gaming Discussion - MS reveal of ballpark of Scarlett

Nothing. Absolutely, positively, nothing, nothing we have not heard before.

Thank you for opening another thread which contains absolutely no information whatsoever (can I have my 10 minutes back?)

Neither the text in the link, nor the video in the link, has any information, whatsoever, in it. Everything has already been said in all the other threads.

I can understand that people are somewhat irritated that after weeks of hearing "MS goes all-in this E3", "Anaconda is 78TFlops", etc, what they got was a slideshow of (mostly multiplatform) cgi videos (and basically a "We got the same the PS5 apparently has"), and as with the PS5 "reveal", nothing specific (as was perfectly obvious right from the start).

But seriously. do we really need all these threads and posts with fictious specs? I know if people post any specs thinkable (and, mostly, unthinkable), eventually someone will get it right.

It's 100% certain the GPU won't come nowhere close to 4 times and that was PR speak dude. Based on imprecision and half-truths. Come on. You're coming across as naive if anything.

You're the spiritual successor to the folks who fell for this:

That's the original Xbox...

... and the PS3.

Also, the "Toy Story" graphics of the PS2.

4 times as powerful was in reference to the CPU, I believe.

Well I doubt it because I'm pretty sure the CPU for next gen will be much more than 4x stronger than a potato.

I believe the "4x" quote is refering to the whole machine, like if you consider the faster ram, beefier cpu and gpu + the ssd you would, in the best case, get 4x the performance of the x, but i doubt the gpu is 4x stronger because this would mean that the gpu on scarlet is actualy 24TFlops and for reference the rtx2080ti has "only" 13.45 TFlops in FP32.

I do believe it's the whole machine. And for it to be the whole machine, most of the parts would need to be about 4x better because if not they would become bottlenecks that would keep the whole from being 4x. And as said by the first reply you don't need 24Tf of the GPU in the PS5/X4 to have a 4x stronger GPU as it would be a different architeture.

I doubt you took more than 2 min to read the OP, so you won't need your 10 min back because of it. And the thread title was very clear on what it is about, so if you didn't want to check on the subject that you are tired of you don't need to enter.

I didn't put any or all specs thinkable. I gave the link to official information.

I read your links three times mainly because I couldn't believe that there was absolutely no information in it. I watched the video twice because I couldn't believe there was absolutely no infornation in it.

"I gave the link to official information"- no you didn't, simply because there is no official information. Again, for absolutely obvious reasons, no company is going to give any official information (which translates to "specs" essentially).

Could we assume someones bias is showing a bit in anticipating a new war?

Aka these generalisations are what made quickrick fall of the vgcliff

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

They are most likely referring to CPU when they say 4x more powerful than XB1 X. A Ryzen 2 CPU should indeed be about a 4x improvement over last-gen's Jaguars, which were underpowered even at the start of the generation. I wouldn't be expecting more than a 2-2.5x improvement over XB1 X's GPU if I were you, and early analysis of the memory modules on Scarlett's motherboard in the trailer suggest we'll be looking at double the amount of RAM and roughly double the RAM speed.

And did anyone else notice the flub about "the SSD working with the Solid State Disk drive" from the one guy? That was cringey.

that really was something......................lol

He says "the combination of the SoC (System on a chip) and Solid State drive (SSD)".

Like so many other times, your bluntness in this kind of thread hits the nail on the head.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

So this gen is focused on load times and other performance, I like this.

I do too. Games not hitting 60 fps and not being 1080p never bothered me one bit but load times sure did (I'm looking at you DMC5).

Don't get your hopes up. Future games will have to load much more data than current games, so the net benefit of the SSD solution will probably hover around 0. Basically similar to how mandatory installs didn't solve the problem of loading times on the PS4 and XB1, but were merely the solution to circumvent the slow Blu-ray drives and keep loading times in check.

It's important to remember that Sony's demonstration a few weeks ago showed loading times for PS4 quality graphics on the PS5, but PS5 quality graphics will obviously be notably more demanding and have longer loading times.

Another important factor is the individual competence of any given development studio. Just because loading times can be kept under control doesn't mean that every game will be that way.
