If anything, the lack-luster performance of the PS3 will make FF13 a lower priority for Square-Enix, who could make more money targetting popular platforms in Japan.

no
FF, the main-series, is way too important to ever get a 'lower priority'

FFXIII is also the game where Square invests the most money in
so they can't just give it less attention all of sudden..

I'm saying lower priority on the release schedule than their bigger release, Dragon Quest.  Dragon Quest goes to a console with many times the userbase in Japan, and has a much greater potential to generate huge profit than Final Fantasy 13.  From a business perspective, if Square-Enix was going to put more resources into one product and try to get it out first, they would do  it with their biggest: Dragon Quest.

Don't forget that Enix was the big company in the Square-Enix merger.

FFXIII might still launch in december in Japan though
Sony might put the pressure on Square, and Square might understand it actually

Wait a minute -- why would Square want to improve the PS3's situation? They've been publically complaining that Sony messed up and that they need to market it better, drop the price, etc. It's already very cheap in Japan -- it's just selling 8.5k/week despite the low price.

I don't understand your reasoning. You act as though Square and Sony are currently close friends who want to help each other out. They're two companies who have been able to help each other profit wildly in the past, but that doesn't look like the current situation. This is all about business.

The PS3 is not very cheap in Japan. If Sony came out with a PS3 that played PS2 games for $250 in Japan, we can talk about it being very cheap. Being the most expensive system in Japan, that uses the most power, and has the most expensive games while not playing the games from the previous generation doesn't make a system very cheap.

Sony owns around 5% of Square so maybe that has something to do with it. Also, maybe Square remembers the days when Nintendo dominated console sales in Japan and doesn't want those days to return.

Well i thought they would not really mind nintendo being so dominent in japan, what makes you say they wouldnt want it to?

ok that's more clear

but I don't agree with what you say about DQ
cause yes in Japan DQ is their biggest franchise
but worldwide it's Final Fantasy, so it makes more sense for them to invest more in a Final Fantasy title

and Enix was maybe bigger,
but Square Enix now got 8 Square development teams, and 2 Enix development teams (check wikipedia on Square Enix, if it's true of course)

''Hadouken!''

So we can only asume that the ps3 is going to get most of these games in 09 but dont you think it will be to late for the ps3 by then

i think that sony needs more than FFXIII to succeed in japan ,, i think that they must do the following steps:
- another price cut
- secure Star ocean 4 Exclusivity + 2 or 3 other quality rpgs
- Ship White Knight Chronicles As soon as possible
- Announcements for games that could interest japanese gamers
- Due to the lack of ps3 games, they should announce that the major PS1 rpgs will be available for download to play on Ps3 (FF VII, FF VIII, FF IX, Suikodens, Parasite eves,.....).
- Launching FF XIII this year, and announcing at the end of the year that kingdom heart 3 is exclusive as well.

Currently Playing: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3), White Knight Chronicles (PS3), PES 2010 (PS3), Killzone 2 (PS3)

Games to Finish: Silent hill Homecoming (PS3), Valkyria Chronicles (PS3), Oblivion (PS3)

Easy easy! We only want PS3 to get healthier sales not to compete with Wii :D

That would be the perfect situation for sony but the only problem is i think kingdon hearts 3 is going to be a wii exclusive or do you have any reason to think other whys?
