I'm trying to be polite here, which is quite hard to do when you keep chiding in with your ridiculously stupid "You just hate white people" comments. You clearly are just trying to push buttons or push a narrative, and I will no longer be party to that. I've explained my point several times. If you wish to engage with me further, actually read my posts and try again. Good day.

Sundin13, please be advised that the forum member with whom you are debating has no intention of engaging you with in a quality debate and is merely interested with wasting your time arousing aggravation.

this is categorically false and i can prove that

Political correctness gone too far again :P I can´t understand how anyone can seriously be offended by that article.
It just points out that white gruff male character is overused, but still can be great character if the writing is good. And to answer that question about if it would matter if the character had different ethnic background, yes it would.
If the character had darker skin etc. it would be a bit more different from the countless other white gruff males and also if the white male wasn´t gruff that would change things or he was a she. Any change that would make it further away from the overused white gruff male protagonist, would make a difference.

Still the character would not automatically be better or worse. Although as white gruff male is so overused, its more difficult to make such character memorable and great.

I'm just off a 4 hour flight home from my holidays so too tired to go through the recent posts. Could somebody read my bollywood comment above and give your opinion? Thanks, appreciate it.

Probably true. And that's a worrying development for white people. I wonder does this happen in bollywood. "Oh not another Gruff Indian playing the roll of an Indian for a film based in India." open to correction but I doubt it.

You have colorism topics in India where leads are always favoured towards fairer actors & the topic just recently came up in the casting of Jasmin in Alladin (although not Bollywood).

The crux is that the US is a melting pot where white people are actually on a verge of becoming out numbered by the collective "minorities". Thus race s a topic of content when these other minorities are not represented or poorly represented. Whereas India/China etc are vastly homogeneous and so its not expected that their films will be lead by non-indian/chinese actors.

And no its absolutely not a worrying development for white people but at this point the topic isn't really deserving of more of my time. I'll leave you with this, just look at the amount of games just released with white leads and ask yourself if there is really a "worrying" development for white people. Remember also that you're just obsessing over one line (removed from context of the review which is actual praising the game), its not like this game is receiving any meaning backlash anywhere in the world. Just go to the movies, look at TV, turn on the news etc and you will see plenty of white faces. If at the flick of a wrist we saw 10% less white leads than what we're used to,  that would atcually be more reflective of what the US actually looks like, if thats worrying to you then there lays your issue.

I agree with your point regarding America that white people are not as dominant as they once were. But the point I'm trying to make regarding India is you could just as easily say, oh another Gruff Indian leading this new bollywood film, how boring. And my reply would be the same. Why does it matter if the lead is yet again Indian. It shouldnt be a factor. Now if games were being made based in say Africa and they were picking white leads regularly I could see a point in complaining.

Anyone from Bend Studio actually reading this...?

ok i'll reiterate once more, if this guy was asian no one would care... why is that?

I actually cannot believe that at this point it must be elaborated upon further.  There are literally dozens of posts explaining this already.

Let's use some quantification, shall we?

How many games in the US have a gruff, Asian male protagonist?  Maybe a few.
How many games in the US have a gruff, white male protagonist?  Maybe a few thousand.

So nobody is saying white = bad. Or male = bad.  Or gruff = bad. Or protagonist = bad.

What we are saying is that the combination of all of those traits (AND IT MUST BE ALL OF THOSE TRAITS) into a single character it is getting stale, old, boring, overused.  It could be an over use of pink, short tailed, wisecracking tigers.   If they use that character combination too many times, it would get old and boring.

Further...and to nix this illogical racist crap to the curb once and for all....if it were racist, they never would have liked playing as a gruff, white male antagonist...or any white character AT ALL.  This isn't about not liking to play as a gruff, white male antagonist ever...but that they are getting tired of doing it repeatedly.

I liked white rice a lot several years ago but started getting tired of it.  Tried brown rice.  I like that now.  Doesn't that mean I am racist against white rice?  Guess what?  I might get tired of brown rice soon and will either go back to white rice or may try yellow rice for a while.  It's. The. Repetition. Of. The. Same. Thing. Over. And. Over. And. Over. Again.

Now if you do not get it after that, we're done and I will never engage another discussion with you again.  You will go on my ignore list.  And if I see someone quote you, I will inform them of this thread and your intention of trolling for the sake of wasting their time such that they may engage in dialog with someone else that values their time and opinions.

Please list the few thousand games where the sole protagonist is a gruff white male.

Try this:

To reiterate if this guy wasn't gruff no one would have a problem... do you agree with that?

You know there would. Every game that have a white male have someone complaining that it could be a woman or black, and if it is cis, it could be trans or non-binary.

This was funny :D        Media is like this, they always find a foothold for controversy or complaint.

If you agree with my boldened point then you should get why.  They wouldn't mention Indian because its the expectation that the lead will be indian and any other ethnicity would be far off from the countries population & raise eyebrows. Instead the comment would just be "oh, another gruffy, generic masculine lead" because Indian is a given... In the US you have almost half the population representing hispanic, black, asian yet very little of this represented in games, which is why white is also mentioned. As has been said 100x, change the race of the character and he wouldn't appear so generic on  appearance value and author of the review may have been more intrigued or found it refreshing. I've already broken my promise not to respond again in this thread so I won't elaborate anymore (no one outside of the this forum seems to care about this topic anyway lol)

Have a nice week, hope you understand now
