02./00. [PS4] Earth Defense Force 5 (D3Publisher) {2017.12.07} (¥7.800) - 111.075 / NEW <80,00%>
03./01. [3DS] Pokemon Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon (Pokemon Co.) {2017.11.17} (¥4.980) - 106.094 / 1.050.168 (-1%)

05./04. [NSW] Splatoon 2 # (Nintendo) {2017.07.21} (¥5.980) - 50.594 / 1.460.370 (+40%)
06./07. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} (¥5.980) - 33.315 / 894.553 (+42%)
07./00. [PS4] Kamen Rider: Climax Fighters # (Bandai Namco Games) {2017.12.07} (¥7.600) - 21.971 / NEW
08./02. [NSW] Xenoblade Chronicles 2 # (Nintendo) {2017.12.01} (¥7.980) - 19.678 / 117.409 (-80%)

I don't get the criticism on Kingdom Hearts 3 second week drop. Were people saying the same when every other RPG that drops 80% w/w, like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (which was released during the holiday season)?

The Xenoblade series doesn't have the same sales potential than a series like KH, people are expecting great things for a sequel that was in the waiting for 13 years and now that it's out, people probably wants the game to do great past it's first week.

It was #2 in terms of launch Kingdom hearts and it was the number #1 in the second week of release and these don't include digital.  I would say the game is doing pretty well for itself.  Also the question wasnt answered.

Xenoblade 2? Are you serious? XC is a super niche series until XC2, while Kingdom Heart is a very well known franchise and the mainline game always sell big. KH3 is a system seller, yet it did nothing to help ps4 and drop just like nothing. Comparing a KH mainline game to a XC game is very very laughable logic

Ok...Kingdom Hearts 3 ships 5 million first week, mainline game still selling big (check).  KH3 (and Resident Evil 2) helped move consoles for the past two weeks, game is still a system seller (check).  Nintendo inability to elevate Xenoblade from niche status has nothing to do with the question I asked... I was comparing a RPG dropping -80% being criticized when other RPGs (from megasellers like DQ IX -74%, DQ XI PS4 -79% 3DS -74%, other Kingdom Hearts games BBB -74%, DDD -80%) and the like have similar drops and I can't recall the same criticism.  RPGs have difficult launch week to second week drops, period.

Yikes at the drop for both Kingdom Hearts and Resident Evil.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is FFXV all over again, its gonna take a while to cross a million and not without some deep discounts.

Resident Evil might not even cross 500K.

PS4 drop was awful and this the second of its two biggest games of the year.

What is the first?

I meant that both Kingdom Hearts and Resident Evil are the biggest Japanese PS4 games this year.

Good point. But the Switch is not a regular Nintendo handheld.

I've explained this a thousand times, but the Switch is not currently classified as a handheld. It is a home console, that you can take on the go. This is clear as day. It isn't a handheld that you can connect to the TV. Console costs $300, games cost $60, and it was marketed at young adults(instead of children).

Nintendo doesn't have the spot for handheld this gen covered, because the Switch isn't a handheld.

So if Nintendo classifies a banana a home console it magically will become a home console and consumers will buy it because they think it is a home console? Yeah, makes totally sense to me because #logic.

Who would have thought japanese consumers which are living in a handheld and mobile market would buy Switch because it was a handheld device. Boy no that would be hillarious, totally #illogic.

PS4 is so over in Japan

Can we not turn this into yet another "is Switch a handheld or a console" discussion, it's one of the most overplayed, pointless and boring topics of recent years on VGChartz.

Seems like the argument will never end so long as there are people trying to marginalize Switch's success.

pointless is a good way to put it, it almost literally doesn't matter at all. We get it, Switch is more likely to appeal to Japan than a regular home console. We get it, Switch may be less likely in it's current state to appeal to Japan than a regular handheld. We already know these factors and they don't need explaining.

I think the PS4 is going to do about as well as expected, which is finish right around the PS3. We do still have a few price cuts to go with the PS4, and some games that can push HW, but it can't be denied that the home console market has just dried up there. I do wonder if the appeal of the PS5 being B/C with all previous systems, if that turns out to be the case, could push its lifetime a little higher.

Why exactly? It's pointing out that almost all JRPGs have the same drop FW to second week. It's odd to say that KH2 dropped anything other than what was expected.
