I'll convince my American friends to vote for her when she gets to run for presidency.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

She should never run. She's so stupid and literally made up a story about her childhood to get elected .

I vote Democrat, but Cortez needs an education on the economy. She thinks a $15 minimum wage needs to happen. Ask her why it is ok for illegal farm workers to make less than $8 an hour, while living in whatever shitty housing the farmer gives them. She'll go into how it makes vegetables cheaper for the consumer. She's also all for erasing USA/Mexico borders, as well as ICE. Why? Because the district she is from is mostly immigrants, and she is just pandering to them.

I do agree with her 70% tax on the rich though. After about $80,000 a year there's no point in making any more money. If you aren't happy with that, you'll never be happy. People that make millions and millions of dollars have a mental disorder. They have a hole in their lives that they keep trying to fill with money and power. So yeah, after your first 10 million you get taxed 70% of your income.

In addition to the 70% tax on people making over ten million, I'd like to see forced retirement for all politicians after 65. People like McConnell, are out of touch with reality and need to just retire. I can't imagine being a senator until the very moment I die. The same goes for the Supreme court. Judges shouldn't sit on the bench for 30 to 40 years. That's just forcing the current generation to be ruled by a generation that is mostly dead.

Still terrible. She suggests 70% tax for every dollar me over 10m. So if you made a billion you're essentially getting taxed 70% of your income.

Terrible that billionaires get taxed heavily?

And here I thought it was terrible that tens of thousands of people every year die because they can't afford healthcare, or are indebted for life right after college, or having to work 3 jobs just to make ends meet. But you think it's terrible that Jeff Bezos may may no longer be able to wipe his ass with thousand dollar bills, and has to resort to hundred dollar bills? Or what? These people will still be insanely rich way beyond what they'll ever need.

The government has no right to take 70% of someones income no matter how rich they are. We can always race taxes on the rich to like 40-45% while decreasing taxes on the middle class but 70% for every dollar over 10m is not fair.

Health care is an issue but the government can regulate insurance providers more with things like price ceilings to make it more affordable. You dont need a 70% tax for that.

I'm not taking any college debt. If you work hard to get a scholarship then college is pretty affordable.

If you're working 3 jobs you're doing something wrong. It's not a billionaire fauly.

I am a fan of her. She is taking care of each republicans she come across. It is also funny to see the republicans trying to take her down but haven't accomplished anything yet.

I despise socialism and the people spouting it as the next great thing. I hope she doesn't manage to do any harm with her ideology.

Next? I don't know how much you know about the world outside of USA, or even within it, but universal healthcare is implemented in every single industrialized country on the planet. Except USA. And it's not a new thing. It's been around for like 50+ years.

As for within the USA, I suppose you bring your own roads to drive on? If not, do you know what paid for those roads? Or why elementary school is no longer just for rich kids and everyone else is illiterate like in the old days? It's what you call socialism. Military, law enforcement, fire department, elected officials, libraries, etc. But I prefer not to use that term because people have very different understandings of what it means.
Just say 'single payer healthcare' or 'tuition free college, etc. That's what Bernie and co want.

Yes, Tim Pool and other political commentators on youtube, though I don't remember particularly where I heard of this.

Maybe I misinterpreted it. Its still a bad taxation system though, for the aforementioned reasons.

Thanks, I'll try to see if I can find those comments.

And if your issue is that they'll try to find loopholes, it's better to have them have to jump through difficult legal hoops to try to get around it rather than just giving them a free pass.

If they tax above 5 million or 10 million or whatever the amount is for rich people, those rich people will just lower their salary to that limit so they don't have to pay, and get the rest in like stock or some capital gains that wouldn't be taxed. Simplest loopholes in the world to work around. It wouldn't work in paying for her GREEN DEAL.

And don't someone come in and say "Tax corporations then 70%" Companies would just leave the US, or put their headquarters outside US so they don't have to pay taxes.

Actually there are taxations for stock and estates above a certain value as well. Well there was, but Trump undid the estate tax. But that can be fixed.
Let them jump through hoops rather than giving them a free pass.

And no one is going to tax anyone 70% on their entire paycheck. Unless you earn like billions. At which point, they'll still be insanely rich way beyond what they'll ever need.

But abut corporations leaving in that case, we saw corporations leave the US and/or close down plants after they got a massive tax break, like Harley Davidson.
That's no guarantee for them to stay either. But I agree that they shouldn't be taxed so heavily that they'd leave. No one wants that.

My general point is that the rich and corporations will find ways to minimize the tax they will pay, and thus her Green Plan relying on a 70% tax rate money to fun will not work. The money will not be there because the rich and corporations will find ways to skirt paying.

Think of like a bar that averages a hundred patrons every night. They decide they want to do some massive upgrades and figure it will cost X amount of money. They do the math and figure that if they have a $20 cover charge, they will be able to pay for the upgrades. But with a $20 cover charge, they now only see 10 people on average a night. So their expected $2,000 a night revenue ends up only being $200.

THat is what I hate about 90% of all PLANS that involve raising taxes to pay for something. They always just assume that everyone will continue to be the same. That they won't lose any patrons so to speak.

Your too late...besides....AOC's 15 minutes of fame expired long ago....

Hello all! I have been a lurker on this site for years. Generally love the conversations as they are very insightful. I never thought a political post is what would drag me out of the shadows, but I just cannot be quiet here.

Cortez liking Smash is awesome as long as it isnt pandering.

I view her tax bracket additions as a mistake, but if they happen it would be ok because taxation almost never drives economy, but it can kill it. However, it seems as though neither side here knows how the brackets currently work. Lets say I recieve a check for $2,000. I would be taxed 15% by the federal government. Now, lets say my next is $2,500 it would then be 20%. (Not actual numbers just an example).  So, under the US' current system of taxation when someone reached $10,000,001 the full amount would be taxed 70%, which wouldn't include Social Security, State income, county, city, medicare, etc. Where does it stop? 80%? Under Eisenhower it was 70%, but the wealthy ended up only paying 47ish% by using breaks and loop holes.

Today: Top 1% pays 39.48% of the income tax in the US. Top 10% pays 70.88%. While they also provide the vast majority of the wages for the middle and lower classes in the US. Seems to me that if you kept the current system and erased all loop holes and breaks the government would raise exponentially more in taxes. But alas that would mean congress pays its fair share (80% of the US' millionaires are in Congress).

Lastly, socialism. It sucks. No, the government's being pointed to in this thread in the EU are not socialist economies. Very large governments? yes, socialist countries? Hell no.

Anyway, hate that my first post was here. I look forward to happier posts.

You're not but plenty of people are, this is a topic that is nonexistant in other countries, and the matter of having to deal with 2 or more jobs is real, too.

I mean, I don't even support Ocasio-Cortez, the woman speaks nonsense sometimes, but it's equally delusional to think that if you're having a rough time in life it must always be your own fault.
