So I bought the X1X even though I don't have a 4K TV. Because lets be frank, the base X1 struggles to hit 1080p as is. While the PS4 is better at hitting 1080p, its still well below in AAA action games targeting 60 fps. So at the very least I will get 1080p and 60 fps more frequently along with other improvements.

Thanks to downsampling a Xbox One X ain't a waste for a normal 1080p TV. Most games should look better than rendered in native 1080p... less jaggies and no edge flickering and better textures in close-ups. So if you have enough HDD space, better activate the optional 4K patches in the dashboard.

"better graphics" + 1080p + stable 60 fps was what i was aiming for this genration.

So you bought a PC?

Right, 1080p without good post processing effects is not a great looking picture. That was evident in 2013 and I was playing Forza 5. I played some Halo:MCC which was already 1080p, but extra polish from super sampling is nice. I have a 1TB external, so I have plenty of extra storage. It also meant I didn't have to download huge games, but it was big updates for X1X content.

An X1X is a good move for more PC visual fidelity without actually changing platforms.

Well I bought the xb1 X last week and I am bit disappointed as well because I don't see that much d8fference between the pro and X. I am still glad I will be able to play some games at 60fps such as gears 4 which IMO looks better at 1080p 60fps than 4k 30fps. It is my bad because I expected more on native 4k or maybe my eyes got used to higher resolution. I bought the witcher 3 to play it at 60fps as well since again, native 4k doesn't look that impressive to me.  I do have a 4ktv with hdr.

I'm not surprised with the Witcher 3.  The Xbox one X patch has caused a lot of graphical glitches and seems like they too busy with cyberpunk to fix it now.

Really?  Didn't know anything about that

I don't own the game anymore so I can't test it out but someone on resetERA posted their XB1X pics of shadows and lighting getting messed up on their 1X due to some patch

also Mr Puggsly if you haven't got it yet; RDR2

The X is a good upgrade over the rest of the consoles on the market, but without a 4k tv your right its not really worth it,i probably wouldnt have upgraded if i didnt buy a 4k tv knowing the X was coming. I always say to people though i dont really recommend the upgrade without the 4k tv and even if you do the $500 price tag is pretty steep.

And as for next gen,i have no reason to say this other than a gut feeling based on how MS seems to be going all in on next gen, that they will take a significant hit to get the Scarlett out. They will have the most powerful console on the market and if its a $500 console for the consumer id bet they are losing close to 100 per console. They will make that up on all the xbox live/gamepass subscriptions so the more consoles they get out there the better long term for them that they can afford to take a bigger hit than normal

I bought a steam link for like $4 and can play my beast PC on my projector in the basement with a 360 controller.

Hmmm, now that you mention it I could stream X1X from a PC to my projector.

Not a bad idea, thanks for mentioning that.

Oh yes, I'm well aware of RDR2 after watching the Digital Foundry videos.

I haven't really been in the mood for that though, so many open world games recently. I've been playing more linear action stuff and Forza Horizon 4 at the moment.

I do plan on getting it though.

That X1X/Pro patch came about a year ago though. At this point I imagine they addressed some bugs.

I also haven't heard complaints outside of this really, so I imagine its a mostly bug free experience.
