Not sure if sarcastic but you're right to some extent.
bigtakilla said: You could also name this thread "Xenogears the thread". Disk one had a good balance of going through dungeons and going through cities, cutscenes, ect. Disk 2 is hour long cutscene followed by hours of same-y looking dungeons that were needlessly long and really turned up the random encounter rate by 1000%, I imagine so you wouldn't be under leveled for the final boss, but some of these dungeons were ridiculous, and it was literally go through this gigantic dungeon then watch an hour long cutscene, wash, rinse, repeat. It was tiresome and seemed like the second disk took forever despite being a lot shorter in play time to the first. |
Yeah i've heard that Xenogears could have been the best RPG from the PS1 era but disc 2 was awfully rushed and brought the whole quality of the game down. I still want to play it some day since Xenoblade Chronicles is one of my favorites and best RPGs i've ever played.
Eric2048 said: I never liked random encounters in turn-based RPG's. I just chose to tolerate them because I enjoyed the rest of the game. I glad developers have moved away from that. I get that they force you to level up or, whatever lame excuse. But I rather have the option to jump into a battle when I want to. As for FFVII Remake I'll wait until I know more about the combat system. |
Agreed

Not sarcastic. Don't get confused so badly what i said, i never rush comment without reasons.
It's a full details based on my frustration/problems life with random encounters when i used to play Pokemon gen 1 through 2 and Final Fantasy VI way back in the end of 90s.(Don't worry, i enjoyed them)
As you can see, i mostly enjoyed the without random encounters RPG games like a lot namely:
-Shining Force.
-Diablo.
-World of Warcraft.
-Phantasy Star Online.
-Final Fantasy Tactics.
-Strife.
-Deus Ex.
-Castlevania Symphony of the Night.
-Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. (GOTY)
And so on, enjoyable without random encounters system.
P.S. No offense, Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee is officially my favorite Pokemon game of all time.

Yeah, so do I most of the time. Random encounters just aren't neccessary anymore i really prefer Xenoblade Chronicles style of fighting system where you kill the enemy and they just respawn after a minute and doesn't interrupt you from exploring.

Agreed, game was such awesome and the latest one for the Switch.
Speaking of Xenoblade Chronicles, have you played Final Fantasy 12 before? If so, what do you think?
Wild Arms 3 ,i stopped playing it recently because it was getting me irritated.

It is a game that is truly unlike any other you will play. It's not terrible even with the second disk, in fact I'd still say it is a legendary game, but it is undeniably an incomplete experience.
gergroy said: Nothing is worse than the random encounters in suikoden 4. They turned those up to insane levels. You are in a super slow ship most of the game and battles happen every 2 seconds and that is not an exaggeration. You could see the island you need to get to and it would still take you a couple hours to get there. It took forever to get anywhere. Only way I could play it was with a game shark and turning off the random battles. Even with no battles it still took forever to get anywhere because the ship was so dang slow. Whoever designed that crap was an idiot, they pretty much killed the suikoden franchise.... |
Well Suikoden is Konami IP. They've killed all their franchises.
"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"
Bravely Default did random encounters best. You have a slider to adjust the frequency. Made for a very pleasurable experience. I don't care whether it's turn based or action, it just needs to be good.
