Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pokemon gen 8 should ditch wild battles and random encounters.

I certainly wouldn't mind if they decided to quit using the random encounters so that we can actually see Pokémon being in the wild. As for the wild battles ....

I'm all for taking away random encounters but I kinda still want wild battles.

I'm definitely in favour of liberating the rest of the game from chore-fluff of random battles. I don't see why people find these to be essential to the experience; it has nothing to do with the popularity of the franchise. The core of Pokemon games has always been in collecting the Pokemon, raising the Pokemon, and then battling team vs team (whether it be random trainers, gyms, or multiplayer).

It's unsurprising the people playing the Let's Go games like the new system better. Its capture mechanic is more stimulating than the previous system. It also doesn't have that same chore-padding feel to it. And I'm unpersuaded by those who say removing random encounters makes it somehow less of an RPG, Chrono Trigger didn't have any back in 1995 and is to this day is regarded as one of the very best RPGs of all time.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Random encounters are so archaic. Should have been ditched years ago imho

Keep wild battles, just make Pokemons visible in the over world.

Yeah, and Gen 9 should do away with Pokemon.

I agree. Ditch the random encounters leaving the Pokémon in the overworked but keep the battles. I don't think there is any reason why they wouldn't keep it so that you could see the Pokémon before you battle them in gen 8. It's obviously something fans have been wanting for an absolute age.

The day mainline Pokemon games become like Pokemon Go/Let's Go is the day I stop playing Pokemon.

And I have bought every generation since the first. I am passing this time and not buying this Let's go dumbed down versions.

If you like Pokemon you'd still like it. I've played every generation and still enjoying Let's go like any other mainline game.

It remove everything I like about Pokemon, so I won't buy it.

It's a dumbed down game for casuals, stripped of all its strategy depth, without any new pokemon and without the core mecanics.  You can as much play Yokai Watch.
