Smash needs and deserves all the time dedicated to it. Massive game

Not really. It's a big franchise, that sells on its own.

When a good band is in town all you need to hear about it is they are in town to perform on X days and your excitement automatically puts in in your mind on getting tickets as soon as they go on sale, even months out.

Crappier bands need more air time so you go you know what I got nothing better to do next week I'll grab a ticket.

It's not about being a big franchise, it's about the game itself. The game is too big to just let players find out stuff on their own

Worth noting some of these games got a disproportionately large ammount of time dedicated to them in Treehouse gameplay streams. Breath of the Wild especially.

This is an exceptional point.

I think the time should be a ratio of the games content and popularity.

I will consider what I can change to the chart to consider this.

That is a good point. I defined that Treehouses won't be calculated since it would make the mismatch even larger and that in my opinion less people watch the Treehouses than the presentation itself.

I added the sales of vgchartz and ration mio per minute.

Nice thread. How do you treat DLC? For example, BotW, Splatoon 2 and XC2 all received coverage for their DLC content, is it included?

Signature goes here!

Yes I included it, since it is in my opinion also air time for the original game itself.

I bet you are one of those people who goes to the end of the movie to see how it ends before you watch it all.

How much info did we get on COD, Uncharted, RDR, Zelda etc? Enough to make you go wow that's cool I want to buy it. A reputable franchise sells itself. Time and time again smash has proven to be great, so no reason to doubt that.

I don't need to see every characters moves, outfits in a 45 minute video at E3. leave some surprises for later like when you buy the game and go wow cool a nice addition.

All the stuff they showed could have been done in 10mins and then through the treehouse after E3.

- All your favourites from last game are back (1 minute tops)

- Here are the old fighters who make a return (1 minute tops)

- Here is some new ones (1 minute tops), more revealed in later directs

- X old levels / Y new levels ( 1 minute tops)

- Some new mechanics (3mins tops)

- Other little features (2 mins tops)

- Want to see more? watch Treehouse after this event (This is for the people who like spoilers)

Obviously Smash Bros has gotten way too much screentime in these Directs, it's going to be big regardless and doesn't need twice as much exposure as the number 2 game. E3 Direct was a huge blunder

I personally didn't really mind it, but I can get why some do. I'm speaking more as a fan of Smash Bros., which is my favorite series of all-time. It's a crossover like no other (possibly surpassing Marvel vs. Capcom at this point) so Nintendo treated it as such, especially when it came to Ultimate. Smash 4 already got so much exposure pre-release and post-release so I wasn't surprised on how much exposure Smash Ultimate is getting. People want to know the roster, the stages, the new mechanics, the presentation, etc. I don't know if it could garner 15 million sales if given smaller exposure (say a direct and 10 minutes of E3). Probably. But who knows. Could it get away with having a limited presence like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Grand Theft Auto and still sell really well? I don't know. I mean it already sounds crazy that any company would put that much into marketing a fighting game, especially when fighting games have not garnered the popularity they once had. But it seems to work for Nintendo with Smash Bros.
