You do realize this kind of sentiment is why game scoring is out of whack? One: you’re calling 8 and 9 low-ball scores. Two: you’re just assuming the consensus is correct on a game you’ve never played. Edit: I see you’re calling out only Edge, so I cheerfully withdraw my last bullet point; my mistake!

The unrealistic, partisan expectations of fans is as much to blame for the toxic Metacritic culture as lazy/nepotistic reviewers.

Injustice must be called out, otherwise material and mental corruption will run rampant. In some cases it encourages them to keep doing it, but that's the price to pay for not turning the other cheek.

(I meant that 99% seriously. But it doesn't mean that it should not be taken seriosly)

I probably came on too strong with my first post. I admit, I’m sensitive to this topic.

But, like you say, “injustice must be called out.” So let’s do that, always. Not just when a Sony exclusive gets an 8/10 or when Jim Sterling rates BotW 7/10. Let’s find the poor reviewers—by actually reading their work and playing the games in question—and call them out accordingly. And let’s also honor different viewpoints and priorities. Just because an author or publication disagrees with your personal opinion doesn’t mean he, she, or it is prejudiced or ignorant.

I doubt that the higher resolution and minuscule difference in fps would alter a review score. From what I've read, it doesn't change the experience.

Xbox One X: 29-30 fps on gameplay, drops as low as 21 fps on a single cutscene
PS4 Pro: 26-30 fps on gameplay, drops as low as 25 fps on a single cutscene

Nah, XB1 versions of multiplat games usually score higher because the PS4 versions have more reviews than the XB1 versions (e.g. 66 vs 14 for GTA V) and because a far bigger percentage of the XB1 reviews are therefore from platform centric outlets (e.g. Official Xbox Magazine UK, X-ONE Magazine UK, Pure Xbox, Xbox Achievements, MondoXbox, etc.) which tend to be far more generous.

I agree with everything here except that with out the X the OG Xbox one and the S perform at 864p. I think that would have an impact on reviews. The OG Xbox One didn't age well

Oh Lord help us, Tom Chick of Quarter to Three, the king of clickbait reviews, is currently playing RDR2. This is the guy that has given 1/5 and 2/5 star reviews (20 and 40 on metacritic) to multiple high profile, well liked games over the years, including Halo 4, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, AC Origins, Resident Evil 7, Civilization 6, The Witness, Forza Horizon 2, Alien Isolation, and Infamous: Second Son, just to name some of his clickbait reviews.

There is some hope however, he seems to like R* games, he gave GTA V a 5/5.

Fuck.

But he did give GTA5 a 10, so there is hope? But I don't know why metacritic still takes his reviews. He is a joke, and everybody knows it.

He was spot on with Fallout 4, underscored Uncharted 2. Gave the Witcher expansion 4 stars which seems about right. I don't think he reviewed BotW so I can't really say if he trolls on greatly rated games.

Sitting only at 97 huh? Can't go any higher? Must be a pretty bad game.

I would like to hear what Rol's opinion is, if he bothers to play this.

Of course he won't play it, but there's no need to bait him on it out of the blue.

Yeah, I think so too. Why would he play mediocre games.

So it sits on a 97.. tied with BOTW and Mario Odyessey for highest reviewed game of the generation. Interesting to see BOTW vs RDR2 for game of the generation.
I also think Smash Bros Ultimate might join the 97 league the way its going.

Reviews suggest game of the generation. Out doing god of war even. Not sure how interest can be so low. I can't wait to play.

Interest for others can be low. Like I said, not everyone on the planet is going to grab the game. It's not everyone's cup of tea.

My interest is low because they haven't released a PC version, and going by their radio silence on that part, my interest will continue to remain low.

Honestly might depend on the Car in the game.

You mean like how people critiqued Arkham Knight with its Batmobile segment?

Didn't Knight get review score below City?

I see smash sitting around 92-94 myself. I don't know if it has the extra kick needed.

I really wish I'd put in my 96 prediction earlier. I think that, once the inevitable troll reviews come in, this could go down to 96.

I hope not, since it sounds amazing and I'm really exciting. Definitely gonna be on my top 5 this year.

My Console Library:

Hot freaking damn! When a 97 hits shelves, it doesn't even matter at that point if you like the genre or not. It wasn't just a little while ago when I read the title of this thread that I realized my plans for tonight have changed. I wasn't planning on getting this at launch, as I am in the middle of so many other games. Make way for RDR2; everything else can wait.
