Looks like EDGE will have to give this an 8 (or 9 max). Especially since it's at 97 now.

The distinction is still important when, say, the game releases on platform A with a lot of technical issues not necessarily related to the hardware, but it also releases on platform B where there are no issues whatsoever. Though, ideally, this comes with the precondition that outlets publish reviews of all versions of the game.

Never heard of bad ports?
This was a huge topic back in the 7th gen. They used to copy paste the reviews across every platform but then got huge backlash as the early PS3 ports were miles worse than the 360 versions, yet they still had the same score. Thus people only looking at the score wouldn't even notice that one version was clearly inferior. Since then they changed it and now if a game was reviewed on PS4 the review will only appear there and not on the site with the X1 version.
