Forums - Nintendo Discussion - New Switch Revision Idea

Not really. Less demanding games have an okay battery life on Switch. DS and 3DS games would probably fall in that category.

And a tiny second screen wouldn't draw much additional power.

It would be cool, but I don't think feasible. They could rework most 3DS games to work on the Switch, but I don't think they'd be able to do it in such a way where you could just pop the gamecard in.

Leave dual screen behind.

Ah, yes, of course. DS and 3DS would naturally consume less power. The ergonomics may be a bit iffy for some though. Just guessing. Have yet to hold a Switch much less actually game on it.

My crazy idea: how about a second screen as accessory you stick in the USB-C-port (so at the bottom of the Switch)? No own battery, it would get its power through USB.

There could be a very light and slim model (only the touchscreen) for digital 3DS and DS games and a thicker model (still light enough to feel comfortable) with a slot for DS/3DS cards.

Wouldn't this be a problem for the already suspect battery life?

I'd be willing to pay more for one that had its own battery.

The 3DS is already on its way out, so it isn't to Switch what the GB was to SNES or the GBA was to GC.

3DS to Switch belongs in the category backwards compatibility, but the only time when BC can have merit for hardware sales is during the infancy of a new console, and even then it's limited. A Switch revision that allows people to play 3DS game cards would come way too late and it simply isn't something where you can say that it would have a business rationale to make it.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

There is no dual screen problem. You can fit the 3DS's two screens within the Switch screen and still have room to spare.

ant man tech, let me shrink it down to the size of a coin to pop in my wallet, then when I'm at work let me bring it to the size it currently is, remove the joycons then expand it out to 55" so that the battery should last for years and the whole office can enjoy it. Happy days.

Here's an idea. How about holding it vertically? It could be uncomfortable to hold, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo could come up with the 3DS style controller, which would slide in a single joycon port, but extend beyond Switch's width, going somewhat "around" the bottom part of the screen.
