X was a fantastic game and the last real Final Fantasy. I was bummed that they did away with the world map but I felt that they got Tidus and Yuna's love story Right. I find their story much more convincing and superior to that of Squall and Rinoa in VIII.

WHAAAT you gotta be kidding.  Squall and Rinoa's was better because of the fact that they hated each other in the beginning.  Squall was a very unfriendly, uncaring guy, and the fact that Rinoa was the only one who could pull him out of that is what makes it a better love story.

But Tidus and Yuna always liked each other.  There was no ups and downs, no arguments, no turbulence in the relationship.  It was sappy as hell and not believable at all.

Squall goes from "..." to "I love you" without much in between from what I recall (it's been a while). As for ups and downs from Yuna and Tidus, how about Tidus learning Yuna is going to die after using the final summon and fighting for it not to happen or Tidus disappearing once Sin is vanquished leaving Yuna on the pier whistling for him to come back?

To me Final Fantaxy X(FF10) is best..

Least favorite definitely Final Fantasy XII(FF12). In fact, it's the worst role playing game I've ever encountered..

Care to elaborate on why? I just finished getting the platinum trophy and I straight up do not understand the hate for it. The only criticism I've heard that has any value is that 'it plays itself', which though technically true does require you to program your characters that way with the gambit system.

The game playing itself is just an elimination of redundancy rather than mashing X to constantly attack and occasionally tossing a potion or reviving characters.

For me it was indeed the "playing itself" part and it also started the trend of you controlling only your party leader which I hate. The story was great and refreshing but the gameplay felt like walking my party from fight to fight.

The turbulence in Squall and Rinoa's relationship is more like Rinoa putting up with Squall's disagreeable introverted personality until he warms up to her.  I find it hard to believe...maybe Iwould have appreciated it more if I played it when I was still a disagreeable introvert teen.  I don't know that videogame cutscenes are the place to tell great love stories, tho (edit: in other words, I am not defending Tidus n Yuna, never played 10.)

For the record, I don’t hate 12 (it’s not my top 10) I always appreciate a Final Fantasy game to do something new, and I like the ai alice setting. Where I find 12 got dragged down is that the Yasumi Matsuno directed portions of the game are excellent - but then it was put into the hands of Hiroyuki Ito who, while he’s a decent battle designer, has no sense for scale and pacing - he completely failed Final Fantasy 12 as a result. Matsuno, IMO, is one of the best designers of all time and it is a shame he got the boot from Square too early due to timelines.

Final Fantasy 2... tried new things and failed miserably... Unlike most people, it’s not the flawed leveling system that I feel is the core problem with this game: you could still probably have a decent game with it; FF2’s major issue was its open world attempt where things WEREN’T really open world... you just walked into areas where you would get slaughtered mercellessly. FF2 lacked polish, and felt rushed overall. I appreciate Square trying new things, and feel all of their best games are the ones that are progressive, but this one didn’t come together.

FF13 - I’ll be one of the few who liked the setting and characters, apparently Snow reminded people of me, which hurt my ego a little when I found out that most people thought he was a terrible character! =D My issue with FF13 is that it felt kind of “been there done that” - it was a little too FFX feeling.

FF Legend 3 - Too much like a B-spinoff of existing Final Fantasy games. The first two were different enough (FFL was the first ever handheld RPG, and FFL2 was the first great handheld RPG - unless Mystic Quest came first, I don’t know, got them around the same time; two of my favourite gameboy games), but FFL3 was too conservative.

I know a bit what you mean, it was like Xenoblade, but they forgot to put in the commands.

To be fair FF12 was more about planning and I felt on that level it did work well - the unfortunate thing for me with FF12 was the. and I try to convince you of this knowing he was probably the guy who designed the battle system you hate!

My vote goes for 8. If not 8, then I'd probably vote 12. When it comes to 8, a large part of it is nostalgia, as I had gotten my PlayStation for Xmas, asked for FF7, but my Dad had gotten me FF8 instead. I remember having to leave the game running for the first day because I didn't have a memory card. Love the characters, love Balamb Gardens, Norg, flying cities, love the University-type feeling it had, and hot damn the music was so great. So much I loved with FF8.

As for 12, it really came down to the combat. At the time, it was refreshing to play a game that wasn't turn-based, while nowadays I want a return to form.
