It wasn't to long ago that you said celebrity endorsement never works. I gave you proof that it does work. (not all the time) I think we're done here. |

Well its good that she is telling people to vote, more people need to be engage in politics.
Proud to be a Californian.

So, nay to Reagan, Arnie, Beloved Leader and Kanye, then. |
Indeed, nay to all those votes if the voters did it blindly.

It's nothing new though.
Look at the past elections. There are dozens of videos with hundreds of celebrities in them all urging people to go out and vote.

Sadly, far too few. We get about 60% voter turnout during presidential elections and 40% voter turnout during the midterms (like this one).
Other countries look at us rather confused because we push 'democracy' all over the world and then don't even exercise it ourselves. |
In Belgium people need to go vote or get fined heavily and that results in a lot of people just voting on whatever propaganda the media trows at them, i am sure that also happens over there but maybe you guys have a lesser percentage of those kind of voters.
Proper neutral politicial education would be handy but such a thing could be easily corrupted sadly.

Being fined for not voting is a bit much. What we should do is register all citizens by default and vote on the weekend (rather than Tuesday). |
You do realize many people work on weekends right? But one may argue that some people go and vote to get out of work.
Imagine if it was a national holiday. I can see a lot of people doing fun things on that day instead of voting. It's their day off, they may not want to sit in a line to vote. Or take off Monday as well and make a four day weekend or something.

That's legitimate scary. Is there a reason to why it's so low?
We had a rate of 87% I believe in our latest election

There's no chance to vote prior to election day? In Sweden you can vote several weeks ahead of election day. Under controlled circumstances ofc.
