Proper neutral politicial education would be handy but such a thing could be easily corrupted sadly.

Being fined for not voting is a bit much.  What we should do is register all citizens by default and vote on the weekend (rather than Tuesday).

You do realize many people work on weekends right? But one may argue that some people go and vote to get out of work.

Imagine if it was a national holiday. I can see a lot of people doing fun things on that day instead of voting. It's their day off, they may not want to sit in a line to vote. Or take off Monday as well and make a four day weekend or something.
