Forums - Gaming Discussion - Predictions: Which game of Q4 2018 will disappoint the most?

Tagged games:

Black friday and holiday season are right around the corner.
Which means a lot of big games are releasing. But in such a competetive environment not everyone can be a winner.

That's what this thread is for. Give your opinion on which game of this quarter will be the one that falls below expectation.

Here a short overview what is coming out:

Forza Horizon 4 (October 2nd, Win, XBO)

Let’s start in chronological order and first up is a XBOX almost-exclusive. Microsoft needs some big hitters for the XBO and also wants to promote its Win10 storefront more. We do have critic reviews and early impressions for this game already and while it seems to be a hit for XBO the PC community is not pleased with the port they got as it seems buggy and has bad performance.

Mega Man 11 (October 5th, Win, NS, PS4, XBO)

The blue robot is back after 8 years. Does Capcom still have what it takes to make a good Mega Man game? Or is the formula too used up?

Assassin's Creed Odyssey (October 5th, Win, PS4, XBO)

The pause between Syndicate and Origins was good for the series but Ubisoft has a tradition of finding a style and running it into the ground.

Super Mario Party (October 5th, NS)

Nintendo breaks the naming convention. Not going for Party 11 but now makes it Super. But is it? By what is out there it does look like a return to form so chances of disappointment are fairly low.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (October 12th, Win, PS4, XBO)

New Year, new Cod as is tradition. Now with a Battle Royale mode. Had a beta phase which went pretty well. So this one likely won’t disappoint.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas (October 16th, NS, PS4, XBO)

Ubisoft joins the toys-to-life squad, while everyone else already left that path again. Pretty sure they are banking a lot on the Switch exclusive StarFox content on this one.

Soulcalibur VI (October 19th, Win, PS4, XBO)

Bamco wants to make this game brighter which breaks with the more twisted nature of earlier games. Fewer fighters compared to the last two games. Will probably add a lot of DLC.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (October 26th, PS4, XBO)

Rockstar takes GTA V and puts it into the cowboy setting. I think this pretty much describes this one. Will still sell good but not near as much as the behemoth that was the Gangster-Simulation.

Hitman 2 (November 13th, Win, PS4, XBO)

Did you know we actually get a new Hitman game in a month? While they are ditching the episodic format I think the reboot has hurt the franchise a bit in the long-term which could affect the sales of this one.

Fallout 76 (November 14th, Win, PS4, XBO)

Bethesda wants to make this a multiplayer online service kind of game while also focusing on narrative which already suffered a lot in the single player game that was Fallout 4. This could be a disaster waiting to happen.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! (November 16th, NS)

GameFreak trying to fill the emptiness until the next mainline game releases. This game tries to be many things at once. A remake/reboot but with new Pokemon, a Pokemon Go and in part a mainline game. Will that mix turn out well in the end?

Battlefield V (November 20th, Win, PS4, XBO)

EA could not have handled this game much worse. From a lackluster announcement, with a more lackluster announcement of a Battle Royale mode, controversies and at the end a delay. Something is going wrong with this game. The signs do not bode well.

Just Cause 4 (December 4th, Win, PS4, XBO)

Another explosion simulator. Can they still make it fresh enough or are gameplay and style too worn out already?

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (December 7th, NS)

The biggest Smash so far. Hype is there. Nintendo’s biggest 1st party title in this year. Betting on this one to disappoint is ballsy.

So who is your favorite to disappoint? Can be either based on critics, player opinions or sales.
Of course it does not have to be one in this list as there are many more releases and I tried to cover those that likely have high sales expectations.

My personal picks are Pokèmon Let’s Go, Fallout 76 and Battlefield V.
Battlefield shot itself in the own foot, Pokemon tries to be too many things at once and Fallout 76 is the game that sounds good in concept but I fear the execution will be lackluster.
Of those 3 I expect Battlefield V to fail the most.

I think from a sales-perspective Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Battlefield 5 will see very disappointing sales

So easy answer.
Pokemon let´s go.
Nintendo will have a big big fail over this tittle. The reason is simple, people doesn't want this game. We want a real pokemon game, and maybe the franchise will get underrated after Let´s go.

"Every day I look in the mirror and ask myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?". If the answer is no for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something"

Fallout 76
Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee.

Fallout 76

Bethesda's lack of polish + multiplayer only launch problems that will likely happen + It being different from Bethesda's norm. Its gonna disappoint a lot of their fans.

Also Pokemon Let's Go is already a disappointment in my eyes.

Fallout 76, COD (as usual) and probably Battlefield V

People didn't want Pokemon Go and see how that turned out.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Either Battlefield V or Pokemon

Gonna say Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, atleast in terms of attracting the Pokemon Go audience. I think the mobile game is old news now, that people who wanted a mainline game after playing it already got a 3DS for one. Just can't see them wanting to spend $360 for a game that has less Pokemon than Go.

Fallout 76 and Pokémon seem the most likely to be disliked by fans of their usual games.
