Forums - Nintendo Discussion - One Year Later, Metroid Samus Returns Still Not Sold Over 500k

Played Samus Returns?

Yes 45 46.88%

Nope 51 53.13%

Total:96

Changed to a more appropriate title because 1 million sales is too high for a Metroid game.

Note: not counting digital sales.

In fact, it's one of the worst sold Metroid games selling even below Metroid Prime Trilogy in physical sales and most likely digital as well. The only other Metroid game it surpassed is

Federation Force... slow clap.

Of course we've got the same old excuses as to why it sold poorly but like i said one year ago, the sales for this game are beyond bad and not much has improved since. This won't do Metroid as a series any good.

Yes, it released late during 3DS life and Switch was already out but this is a "good Metroid game" fans were craving for even if it's just a remake it's Metroid, a series is so highly praised in the west yet not even supported by it own fanbase.

Nintendo still hasn't released any official numbers nor any word on SR we've heard a rumor of another Metroid project for 3DS which sounds great but unlikely probably because of the good reception SR received.

Metroid Prime 4 will probably sell better, wishful thinking it'll pass 2 million but not expected. Hopefully Nintendo doesn't give up on 2D Metroid, i'm still waiting for Metroid 5.

All that Smash Metroid hype and promoting over the years has not worked at all.

This is really troubling... I never understood why one of Nintendo's best series struggles so much to find an audience.

I make game analyses on youtube:

shoud've just put it on Switch. I only one reason why I didn't care for it is that reason alone, not on Switch. Moved on from 3DS a long time ago

Prime 4 will pass 3 million, Samus returns sold poorly because it was on the wrong system at the wrong time. I haven't had much experience with Metroid, but I played Samus returns and got the themed Metroid 3DS.

It's actually pretty good, so I am disappointed by this.

I know that lots of fans agree with your statement.

To you i have to say, don't whine when Ninty stops doing Metroid.

Sole reason I didn't even contemplate it was it was on the 3DS. I'm done with that system. Can't handle playing it after I got a Switch.

I have no doubt in my mind the game would have over a million sales had it released on Switch.

I'm not surprised. It was released when the majority of the western userbase had already abandoned the platform save for latecomers that just bought all the popular old games and Pokemon.

It was already in development for the 3DS so converting it to Switch at that time would've taken a little longer to do since it wasn't the focus during development.

Its time to retire the old 2D sidescroller and just make the 3D ones.
its like Mario in that reguard, nintendo need to put effort into their titles and not do simplistic 2D games that indie's are now close to matching.

Honestly dont think that would have changed things much.
