Forums - Gaming Discussion - What are your top ten best looking games this gen?

Maybe somebody else should be making this thread. I haven't uploaded a pic or a video in years, ever since there was some change to the background of this site. But, I digress.

There was a time when I was really disappointed in this gen's upgrade over the last. Now, there are quite a few great looking titles that really make me say "wow" when I look at them. In no specific order:

-God of War (PS4):

-Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4):

-Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (PS4/XBO/PC):

-Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS4/Xbox One/PC):

-Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End (PS4):

-Quantum Break (XBO/PC):

-Detroit: Become Human (PS4):

-Gears of War 4 (XBO/PC)

-Cuphead (XBO, PC):

-Until Dawn (PS4):

There are some other games that look great but, in my opinion, these are the cream of the 8th gen crop. Never been so happy to be wrong. What are your top ten graphically impressive games?

God of War is the most impressive in terms of visual fidelity by far
The Last Guardian has also made me go "wow" because of its lighting and architecture
Zelda BotW also has a pretty great art style imo

I make game analyses on youtube:

Silent Hill 2: https://youtu.be/BwISCik3Njc

Gran Turismo Sport VR
Moss
Resident evil 7 VR
London Heist PSVR Worlds
God of War
Uncharted 4
Horizon Zero Dawn
Spider-Man
Super Mario Odyssey
Forza Horizon 3

Honorable Mentions:

Pinball FX 2 VR
Gears of War 4

I expect a few of these to get knocked off in the future with Blood and Truth, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, TLOUPII, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, and other future releases.

It has definitly been a good generation. I just wish we could get more AAA expereinces in VR, because games look so much better in VR with real 3D depth and Scale. I would love to see what GOW, Horizon, and Super Mario Odyssey look like in VR.

Best looking, huh? In no particular order...

God of War
Breath of the Wild
Horizon Zero Dawn
The Witcher 3
Ori and the Blind Forest
Battlefront 2
Spider Man
Battle for Azeroth
Uncharted 4
Assassin's Creed Origins

All excel at different things. I'd probably put God of War head and shoulders above the lot, though.

I'm so far behind. But I've been playing Uncharted 4 on the Pro, so Uncharted 4! Haven't played any of the other more obvious contenders. I also thought inFamous: Second Son was good looking. I really enjoyed the visuals on Wolfenstein: TNO and the Old Blood expansion. Those last 3 were all on the launch PS4. Played only 2 AAA games on the Pro......Driveclub was a pretty amazing looker early on, and my brief demo with the last Forza Horizon on the XBO was very impressive.

In no particular order:

- Cuphead
- The Wind Waker HD
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Played it on Wii U but I'm picking the Switch ver. because it's 1080p)
- Bayonetta 2
- Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy
- Dragon Quest XI (Looks amazing, but I haven't played it yet)
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Splatoon 2

Can't think of anything else right now, I'll add the remaining 2 games later if I remember something else.

Cuphead
Ori And The Blind Forest
Hollow Knight
Breath Of The Wild
Octopath Traveller
Super Mario Odyssey
Little Nightmares
Never Alone
The Wind Waker HD

I started this list as a semi-ranked list, but it just kind of fell apart as I remembered more titles ... lol ... anyways

God of War (PS4):

The most graphically breathtaking game I've played this generation

Uncharted 4 (PS4):

Best environments I've seen this generation.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (NS):

Still one of the most visually appealing games to my eyes. It's so crisp, so clean, you almost forget about the numerous technical limitations (and you would completely, if it wasn't for the video editor). This is the best looking 3D cartoony game I've seen.

Monster Hunter: World (PS4):

By no means as graphically impressive as a PS4 exclusive or the plethora of intensive PC games out there. Yet despite that, the amount of work put into the monsters is utterly astounding. I've loved the monster designs for the series since I first became acquainted with it on the 3DS with 4 Ultimate, but World is the game that I think truly proves the amount of artistry that's required to make fictitious creatures look like plausible entities. So much effort, and it all paid off, it's like porn for my imagination (Uh ... not that i'm into bestiality).

The Witcher 3 (PC):

I don't know, for my money, there's still not a lot of open world games that beat this from a graphical perspective ... could be objectively wrong, though. I just feel like the environments are so much more real than the alternatives on console. The game doesn't look that impressive on console nowadays, but on High/Ultra it still stands out fantastically.

Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4):

People really underate this game's art style and design ... it's fucking fantastic. I like this for a lot of the same reasons I like MH:W graphically. They put so much work into making the animation of robotic monsters look like real living creatures while still maintaining that technological tone to their movements. There is a slightly soft, pleasant, cartoony nature to the game that is very understated, it adds a lot to the environments. Too bad they look quite plain in a lot of places ... with a game like MH:W you get the benefit of maps being very particular in their design, with Horizon they did a great job of making various regions feel different like they had a place in the world, but there's still a lot of areas that blend together.

Grand Theft Auto V (PC):

Shitty ass game ... good for benchmarks on PC though at high/ultra

Star Wars: Battlefront II (PC):

Really makes you really feel like Vader

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (NS):

If it wasn't for the fact that some of the textures are extremely bland ... or that there is too much copy-pasting, this would be a lot higher. However, many open world games or even games that just have large map sizes still look like fucking trash even ten years after this kind of title got popularized. In that respect, Breath of the Wild is very impressive. It is one of the best games to get on a high mountain, look out into the distance, and imagine fields of green grass waiting for you to roll around in them.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Pachinko Machine Cutscenes (PM):
We passed upon the stair.
We spoke of was and when.
Although I wasn't there,
He said I was his friend.
Which came as some surprise,
I spoke into his eyes:
"I thought you died alone?
A long, long time ago ..."
Oh no, not me!
I never lost control.
You're face, to face...

I was tempted to say Battlefront 2. I only played the first but I'm sure the second looks much better!

Good descriptions, overall. I should copy your idea go back and say why each game got the nod.
