I assume that does count people like me who have not touched their PS4 in months but still have it plugged in while the PS4 is constantly checking in in standby mode.

PS4 is not like XBox, which is always on standby unless you unplug it.  Most people I know turn the PS4 console off completely, myself included, unless suspending a game in standby mode.

That, and multiple users on a single console I guess. Or people like me who’ve only used it for Netflix last month.

But regardless, 80m is a big number to attach to anything.

You do not need to be signed into PSN to use Netflix.  Even the X1 does not have it locked behind XBL.

Yes, you do. You don't have to pay for PS+, but you do need to be signed into PSN. No PSN connection = no internet connection and no internet = no Netflix.

Not necessarily, you don't need to be signed into PSN to be online. You could be on a local ps4 account that isn't linked to any PSN account.

This is absolutely true. But......I swear you used to have to be signed into PSN to use it. After 3 years without it, I started using Netflix again on the PS3 this past May, and immediately took note that there was no prompt/requirement to login. Youtube still requires a PSN login however. At least on PS3.

Damn, 80 million!?!?! What does this number mean? I certainly can't imagine PS Plus is more than 20 million, and that's my absolute maximum estimate. I would think realistically it's more like 10 or 15 million.

I have two PS4s and a PS3 plugged in, albeit they all sign into the same PSN account (the PS4s boot each other offline, as you can be signed into a PS3 and PS4 simultaneously, but not an OG PS4 and a PS4 Pro). Do I count as three to that number? This is just sketchy.

The number of PS+ subscribers was over 34 million as of March 31, 2018. And your one PS+ subscription counts as just that: One, regardless of how many devices you sign into with it.
