I find it incredibly funy that some ppl think a game with a 87 metacritics somehow hasn't lived up to the hype. Its only every once in a blue moon we get games that reach God of War level of critics, and that doesn't even necessarely mean you, the gamer, will enjoy a 90+ game more than a 87 one.

The game was kind of overhyped here on VGC to be fair. Not only have I seen people saying that it would outsell Batman: Arkham City to become the bestselling superhero game of all time (Batman Arkham City sold around 15m including digital) and people calling it GOTY already, but look at how many people were expecting 90 or above here on the prediction thread:

That's not to say that 87 isn't a good score, it is still quite good, but it's also nothing amazing. As a Spider-Man fan I'll most certainly still be playing it, hopefully it can live up to Spider-Man 2 (2004) in my eyes.

Someone already did the math and the average is very close to the metacritic/ opencritic.

As for the 97 and 95, outliers are outliers.  And one might have been a joke/troll post, not sure though.

Looks like a really fun game but i will have to pass up on it for now, (same for Dragon Quest XI, Valkirya Chronicles 4, Red Dead Redemption and Zone of The Enderes the 2nd Runner), since all my gaming budget has been spent on... something important.

Oh well whenever i buy those games be it at the end of the year or early next year they will have dropped in price, (at least some of them) so i will  have saved some money.

I bestow upon you the title of Gacha Slave (or would you rather Jalter Slave?)

Well considering i havent spend a single dollar on the Gacha i cant classify for the first title, and while my dedication to Jalter is as big as it can get im not to fond of the idea of being anyones slave XD

Also since i havent spent a single cent on the game for 3 years i see this as a way of giving back something for all the years of free fun, (not to mention i really want that statue lol).

Too optimistic on my part there lol, originally went for 90 but it's still too high from the actual score, nevertheless, can't wait to play it this Friday, tend to finish this types of games to the end compared to RPG's nowadays.

I still say the hype was proportionate to the words of the reviewers (people often focus on numbers versus the actual text - much why I say the numerics should go). An example of something that promised more than it delivered was No Man’s Sky. In Spider-Man’s case, arguing for overhype, based on 3, 4, or 5 points is just silly. 87 is a very high grade, but far more importantly, the game has delivered. Thus, it received a proportionate amount of excitement.

Great way to put it.

The game might outsell Batman, we don't know anything about its sales numbers yet, so that part can neither be denied or confirmed, altough its hard for any game to sell that much. Also less than half the ppl expected a score above 90, and regardless of that 87 is a great score, its also not far from 90, so no the game wasn't overhyped, ppl expected it to be great, it is great, that is the long and short of it.

So far my prediction is spot on

Dang. Was a couple off my prediction of 85 score. It did better than I thought so pretty good.

Similar words but the scores is all over the place. This is bullshit.

"Marvel’s Spider-Man is the best game you will play this year" - 100
DarkStation

"This feels like the most authentic Spider-Man game" - 90
The Daily Dot

"best Spider-Man game to date" - 80
We Got This Covered

"The best Spider-Man game ever made" - 70
Metro GameCentral

"This game shows tremendous love for all things Spider-Man" - 60
Guardian

CPU: Ryzen 9950X3D
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 PRO

I think people just need to accept that not all game reviewers think the game is the best ever and that some of them are going to disagree and give it a lower score. Not everything can be 9's and 10's and just because it doesn't match the score you personally give it,does not negate that reviewers score that put it lower. 87 is a great score and shouldn't be frowned upon at all. Everyone go out and buy the game, regardless of any reviews

Relative to what I said and the post I quoted, which was about how Sony should have already bought Insomniac, I don't see your point.  Unless you have some information that says Insomniac is up for sale?

I was just pointing out that Sony could buy them at some point. *shrugs

What a pointless conversation, its not like this hasn't been done to death before ,either one of you could have ended this by saying if Insomniac ever decided to sell then based on their shared history Sony would be in the box seat.

Having said that this is my take, Sony gets full access to a studio that it trusts, one that has both  created and  continued forward with  IP for Sony and they know Insomniacs strengths so taking all that in it would seem a no brainer to own. So why do I feel that the present  relationship should continue it's because of benefits, for both parties in independence, flexibility being a big one, take early PS3 Sony saw the need for a Shooter rather than opening a new studio or pushing games onto studios without a track record or if they have one are working on their own IP, they turned to Insomniac who created Resistance a game that filled that void and was one of their strongest early games good  enough to become a series.

Another point in favour of the status quo is personnel turnover, history points toward a lack of both monetary and creative incentive to stay once a developer is sold, how much this matters depends on the reasons behind the purchase if it's to gain the developers IP's not so much, but if it's a developer like Insomniac without much in the way of valuable IP it becomes a real concern.
