Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo Financial Results: Switch sales top 19.67m, Mario Tennis 1.38m, DK TF 1.4m, more

Just noticed that Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have sold as much as Pokemon Platinum leaving only Black and White 2 as well as Pokemon Yellow as the only third versions to so far sell more than it.

More evidence the 20 million is too optimistic. People were actually expecting vgchartz to be undertracking it's sales even in the last couple of weekly sales topics.

Yea i can't wait till the holiday, so we can stop hearing  about how switch will dominate the holidays because of 2 games, same thing happened last year with mario odyssey, people were sure switch would dominate the holidays it never happened.MMMioarioo

Mario vs pokemon+smash lol. Not the same thing. And sure you thought switch will fall off a cliffwhen it hasnt. So stop. Nintendo couldship18.5mill and you still find a way to downplay

Just having Animal Crossing in the first half of this year and having Smash in September alongside the online service would've made a big difference, then you could've had three killer apps this year spaced a few months apart just like last year.

20 million would've been a breeze then.

I don't know if I'd say that Nintendo mismanaged their releases so far.
Cutting WiiU's lifespan short and launching Switch earlier than they ideally would have wanted, I think they had to go into the first year with guns blazing. The price for prioritizing the first year like that can result in situations like these. Especially when every third party console game isn't guaranteed to appear on your system.
I think they probably did what they could with the resources they had. And they avoided the risk of making people cautious of Switch in the first year, which I think would have been worse than some droughts in the second year.
Although perhaps the resources they put into Labo could have been allocated to speeding up something like Animal Crossing.

Apparently Labo is a project Sakaguchi, who developed Splatoon 1, wanted to develop. I don’t think it hurts since it’s something he wanted to do and we’ve praised Sony for giving that type of freedom to their first party developers.

And others criticized Sony for having weak sales for 1st party games...

It's cool to have variety, and I don't think it is a problem that some or even most of them fail to sell much. But we have to acknowledge when that happen.

Huh, I at least expected it to be above last year's shipments for the quarter since there was a major supply shortage. Guess it's not to surprising in the end given the lack of dominant software releases to push hardware.

Software looking good! Hardware not bad either. Hopefully it picks up more this quarter and wow VGC tracking for the Switch looking pretty good.

There usually should should be over 2+ million plus in transit or in stores shelves, 1.5 is a really low number. anyway here is the regional break down.

japan 50

americas 67

europe/ROTW 70

it seems  europe is over tracked here unless switch is selling nothing in the ROTW.

Your "should have 2+ million" rule is made up.

Also there is no notable overtracking.

Vgchartz sales

N. America-6.90

Japan-4.54

Europe-4.91

RotW-1.91

Shipments

Americas-7.81

Japan-4.89

Other-6.97

Hardware is a bit lacking this quarter but this shows 100m software is definitely within reach.

I like how many negative comments dont mention this. That figure was surprising to me. Especially when pokemon and smash will account for 25mil by end of fy lol

Download only titles are not included on the figures.Plus he is talking about this quarter performance, not overall.

And was the PS4 doing similar numbers in its second year, during this period?Genuine question.I tried to look around, but a quick search led to nothing, and I dont have time right now to do a more through search.

PS4 Shipped 4M in FY15Q2 (there is the disalignment due to releasing in November instead of March but it was it's effective second Q2).

Total Sales 29.3M

https://zhugeex.com/2015/10/sony-fy2015-q2-ps4-ships-4-million-cumulative-sell-in-at-29-3-million/

I was more refering to the software numbers, but thanks anyway!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Especially from people who have constantly said 100m was impossible.
