Cutting WiiU's lifespan short and launching Switch earlier than they ideally would have wanted, I think they had to go into the first year with guns blazing. The price for prioritizing the first year like that can result in situations like these. Especially when every third party console game isn't guaranteed to appear on your system.
I think they probably did what they could with the resources they had. And they avoided the risk of making people cautious of Switch in the first year, which I think would have been worse than some droughts in the second year.
Although perhaps the resources they put into Labo could have been allocated to speeding up something like Animal Crossing.

Apparently Labo is a project Sakaguchi, who developed Splatoon 1, wanted to develop. I don’t think it hurts since it’s something he wanted to do and we’ve praised Sony for giving that type of freedom to their first party developers.

And others criticized Sony for having weak sales for 1st party games...

It's cool to have variety, and I don't think it is a problem that some or even most of them fail to sell much. But we have to acknowledge when that happen.
