Just having Animal Crossing in the first half of this year and having Smash in September alongside the online service would've made a big difference, then you could've had three killer apps this year spaced a few months apart just like last year.
20 million would've been a breeze then.

I don't know if I'd say that Nintendo mismanaged their releases so far. Cutting WiiU's lifespan short and launching Switch earlier than they ideally would have wanted, I think they had to go into the first year with guns blazing. The price for prioritizing the first year like that can result in situations like these. Especially when every third party console game isn't guaranteed to appear on your system. I think they probably did what they could with the resources they had. And they avoided the risk of making people cautious of Switch in the first year, which I think would have been worse than some droughts in the second year. Although perhaps the resources they put into Labo could have been allocated to speeding up something like Animal Crossing.

Apparently Labo is a project Sakaguchi, who developed Splatoon 1, wanted to develop. I don’t think it hurts since it’s something he wanted to do and we’ve praised Sony for giving that type of freedom to their first party developers.
