This crossgen seems almost like it could be the version on PS4

Yeah. Cross gen games always bring out the best in the old consoles (and sometimes the worst in the new consoles). Destiny is another cross gen game that looks phenomenal on the PS3.

It just goes to show that power isn't everything. Developers' engines, tools, effects, etc. will improve over time.

Yep, power is just a pool from where a talented dev draws.

Aliens vs. Predator (PS3) - 2010

Alien Isolation (PS3) - 2014

Is these the same dev? But a very big jump.

Need for Speed: Carbon (PS3) - 2006

Need for Speed: Rivals (PS3) - 2013

In this case I would say it's more on Carbon looking very ugly than a big jump =p

But this is basically a jump from one crossgen to another.

If we consider Wii U and Switch as the same generation (As in, both being 8th generation consoles. They're obviously different Nintendo gens though, and Switch is 9th gen to me), then I think 3D World > Odyssey and Splatoon > Splatoon 2 are nice improvements, especially in Odyssey's case.

(Couldn't find a better example for Odyssey, sorry).

Also, I'm interested to see what a Zelda game built from the ground-up for the Switch would look like, especially a 2D one.

I particularly don't consider same gen.

But doing the comparison this way we could do something crazy like this

Call of Duty 3 Wii

Call of Duty Ghost X360

Since we are stretching it I decided to go further =]

Resident Evil Gameboy Color

Resident Evil 4 Gamecube and PS2.

Me neither, but so many people around the internet consider them as the same gen, so I figured why not? =P

Anyways, here's Tomb Raider 1 vs Tomb Raider 5 as a proper same gen comparison:

Ooh, here's another good one:

Dragon Quest V (PS2) vs Dragon Quest VIII (PS2)

Sadly the only good screenshots I found are emulated, but the difference is huge anyways.

Code Veronica to RE4, and we had REmake and Zero in between (although they were pre-rendered backgrounds).

We had 5 tomb raider in the same gen? Holy Cow... unfortunately the image doesn't load for me.

Don't joke around, remove this SNES to PS2 comparison =p

We had five Tomb Raider games in about five years. Definitely easy to see the improvement in the models, lighting, textures, geometry etc as the games progress.
