Forums - Nintendo - To those who say Octopath is not worth 60 dollars...

Depends how much the game cost to produce, by looking at, fuck all. It's not worth the asking price, but hey, justify however you want.

Some people on VGC doesn't see a problem in a game costing 1M to make, selling for 60USD for 10M people and rack in over 300M in profits.... but they will day in and out complain about companies that put 100M to make a game sell 5M copies at the same 60USD to make 50M profit.

I rather have the money I pay being utilized to push the games I buy to the limit then defending that they took a lot of effort to disguise low investiment in graphics behind retro look.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Almost no game is worth $60. But I have no problem to wait a few months and pay half or less.

Actually almost every game is worth more than 60 bucks. Game prices are far below what they should cost. Everything has gone up in price with time, except games..

I would argue that the cost to produce or irrelevant. Otherwise games with ultra high production values should cost much more than 60 bucks. Also, high production values don't make a game good. Furthermore, you as a customer are not the one who should have to iron out how little a developer can handle costs. But hey, justify however you want ;)

The only thing that should drive a price up is a high demand.

I agree. Gaming has never been as cheap as nowadays, I think.

Why don't you name those people?

Its the old "if it isnt 3D" or "it didn't cost 40 million to develop" it's not Worth more then 40$ mentality.. kinds sad really.

I've been playing for 20 hours and I'm having a blast especially now when I do chapter 2+ for the characters and it's hard as hell and me as a old turnbased fan love it.

If you think it's sensible for developers to charge full price for a game that is on the lower end of developing costs then you are supporting bad business practices.

Just like Divinity Original Sin 2 didn't cost 60 dollars, their is no reason for a game that doesn't use the expensive technology of AAA games to cost that much.

Exactly, i would love for developers to price each game differently.

Kinda screwd point of view when we know that games were way pricier back then. 60$ isn't cheap, but by the laws of inflation, it kinda is now.

60 dollars for a game is cheap.

Movie tickets average at 10 dollars for about 2 hours of entertainment.

Games are able to give up to 200 times that, while only costing 6 times as much.

It's just one factor amongst others though. Supply and demand isn't the end-of-all when you have to account consummer elasticity or also marginal utility into the mix.

You're making it way too simple of an equation.

It's a personal decision-making-process if a product is worth the price. Everybody has one, but this one is mine for full-priced games:

1. Do I want to play the new game X more than some of my unfinished games?

  • No.  ->  Play the unfinished games instead, especially if they are even better than the new game X.
  • Yes. ->  Go to 2
2. Do I want to play the new game X more than the cheaper game Y?
  • No.  ->  Buy and play the cheaper and more desired game Y.
  • Yes.  ->  Buy and play game X for full price.
Most new good games already fail at question one, most of the rest fail at question two.
There are many new games I want to play eventually, but they are very rarely better (or more desired) than the ones I already have.

This is very much how I am too.  I rarely buy games right at release.  The most recent exception though was Breath of the Wild.  I literally felt like I had been waiting 25 years for another open world Zelda game like this (since Link to the Past).  I couldn't wait one more moment to get my hands on it.  I can see how people might view Octopath Traveler the same way, since Final Fantasy took a pretty big turn after FF6.

simple the graphics i dont care how long it isI was excited for the game(still am) but I was expecting it to be priced at 40 or below. its pricing at 59.99 now has me considering other options for an rpg to play(battle chasers) while waiting on a price cut or sale on this title
