Forums - Website Topics - VGChartz doesn't let me use it anymore, keeps trying to infect my phone

I've been getting that exact page for over 5 months. It's the reason I don't visit as often as I'd like.

I'm not lasting half a minute now, seriously.
I'm only able to post by turning my wifi connection off quickly after the page loads, write what I want, turn the wifi back on and post it quick, then turn it off to be able to read what I wrote without getting redirected to the virus pages!
Turning it off!

Is it only on vgchartz that you are getting this? You've not downloaded any mp3 downloaders or other dodgy software on the phone recently? Just that it could be non site related adware on the phone.

The same happened to me when I was logged in a few weeks ago on mobile since my PC was gone for a while and I could only use my phone, logged in to post once and then one of those things popped up/redirected that don't let you leave unless you exit/refresh the site or something. I logged out but then oddly enough when I visited the site later it said I was logged in again.

Not even just that but basically anytime trying to look at VGChartz on mobile you constantly get those redirects every few minutes, it's been like that for months now, it's not worth it to even try on mobile until it's fixed honestly.

Can those things fuck with your account or infect it? Since it happened to me when I was logged in. I had been meaning to ask about this since a few weeks ago since it worried me. Also makes me want to run a virus scan on my phone if that's even possible.

The very nature of these types of redirect which you cannot leave are to trick you into installing software which is designed to "infect" your phone, the majority of them will try and shove adverts down your throat while you're browsing or just as notifications in general.

If you are worried just jump on the playstore and get the free version of AVG antivirus, tell it to go away with offers of paid services and just update the free version, run that on your phone if you're worried about anything you might have accidentally picked up, after using the software though... I would almost advise you uninstall it again, as the free version of AVG itself does actually advertise you to pay for the full version on occasion and isn't something I leave run all the time on my phone.

Those haven't appeared in a while for me but it was kinda frequent this year.

It's VGChartz exclusive.

Maybe it was moneyhatted.

Edit: I take very good care of this phone, zero chance it's something else than the site.

VGchartz has the same advertisers as always as far as I know, they hire the space for an advertising company to provide the adverts in each region so it's not like anyone here even ioi signs off on what adverts appear, he basically owns the billboard and leases that to a company who then decides what adverts go into it.

But if there is any option you see around the popup you're getting which says to report the advert then that'll give feedback to the company who are making use of the space and they should hopefully use it less often in your region. In the meantime you could consider a pop up blocker to allow you use this site while the redirect advert is in place, even one not to block ads from here but just not allow browser redirection might let you at least use the site on mobile without disabling your data connection to prevent this. Just as a temp solution until the advertising agency gets enough reports about the adspace being used poorly.

Obligatory "Use Adblock" post.

I have the exact same thing ("Your phone is infected by 4 viruses!"), almost everytime I go on Vgchartz. I have to close it and open again. It's only here, and it happened for a couple of weeks now. It happened a few months ago too, and stopped after a while.

the thing is, because these sort of redirection adverts make a site basically unreachable in the area's they're being pushed then the advertising group will be getting a lot of feedback from this and other sites users on the issue and the advertiser should then stop selling the adspace which is responsible for the redirection fairly fast (hopefully) like I said if the adverts here are causing browser issues you will likely find them on a bunch of other gaming sites which use the same advert company, as per a quote of ioi recently

"As for ad choices and the GDPR popup - we have no direct control over those. We use the same ad company as a number of other gaming sites (videogamer.com, mobafire.com etc) so they will all have exactly the same "issues" until they have fixed things on their side. You can normally click to hide an ad or provide feedback if it is offensive so somebody can look into it and deal with it accordingly."

So just need to wait for them to sort it out, it's not a VGC issue.

I'm no computer specialist but being re-directed to another page is not necessarily the fault of the site you are trying to visit. If you have caught a malware that will redirect you to some virus loaded page, that malware could redirect you from a number of websites it is programmed to or even all sites if it's written in the malware code.

Of course a malevolent website could do that too or the advertisement appearing on such a site could do it. But logic suggests if it's the website itself then everybody visiting it should be affected too and not just a few people.

I suggest you run an anti-virus on your phone (I assume those exist for phones too) and good luck to you.
