Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony needs more studios for PS5. and it has nothing to do with competition.

How about we all stop expecting photo realism and start focusing on just great, original and innovate games again? That would solve just about everything.

Or we can have both, as Detroit and God of War just proved.

God of War is many things but its not really a game that has done many new things. It just combines a lot of genres and does execute all of them very well. If you want innovation you should look at Dreams. Though Detroit did some new and innovative things.

I would like more studios, but Sony doesn't really need it.

Sony are already doing all 4 of those.

they are not doing all 4. all of their first party games are 3rd person action adventure games

I guess Gran Turismo was classified wrong for 4 generations then.

I didn't say God of War was innovative. It didn't need to be. I argued that we got a fantastic game with some of the highest quality visuals ever produced.

Fair enough for some reason people still think great graphics somehow result in lesser gameplay. Even though many of the best looking games on PS4 are also among the best games on PS4. Great visuals can only make a good or great game better. A game that sucks to begin with does not have a lot of benefit from good visuals.

Both of those studios just shot their loads and are done until next generation. How is that a good thing?

I rather have 1 great game per dev per gen, than 3 mediocre. There is plenty of games on 3rd parties if you want.

I do think that 1 new studio will help. 2 big games every gen will add a lot to the line up.

Also we dont want another period like the end of PS3 gen where Sony studios where pumping out great games but due to lack of marketing resources, many struggled to sell.

I would say a sweet spot is being able to release a big game every 3 months.

So for a 6 year gen, we would need 24 games released... each studio being able to release about 2 games per gen they would need 12 teams and with 2 teams per studio 6 major studios. They are about the right size.

Yep I bought them all, but some probably got their legs cut due to low marketing budget + start of new gen taking out the focus.
