One positive coming from a potential flop is that it points towards the Star Wars audience wanting more female/minority leads.

Oh, stop with the SJW crap. How bout you and Lucasfilm stop trying to check of some diversity checklist that only people on the extreme left care about, and worry about the film's being good. Okay? Thanks.

How are people defining flop because I see 3 ways to look at it

1.  Below expectations -  By this definition I think it will be a flop

2.  Will cost Disney more money then it will make - I very much doubt it will be a flop by this definition.  They wont make the amount of profit they wanted but I still think it going to end up in the green for Disney.

3.  Lost of potential Money (IE by releasing this movie you devaluing the star war franchise as whole) -  This is much harder to prove one way or the other.  Will merchandise or sales of future movies be less then it would be if they never released this movie.  I personally don't think it will be a flop by this definition.   People that would be turned off from Disney star wars because of this movie have already been so after last jedi and this movie wont make anything worse for Disney.

Personally I came into the movie with low expectation and it did beat my expectation.  Was not a great movie but was entertaining enough and I have no regrets going to the movies to see it.  Also people making way to big deal about Lando.

Spoiler ahead

If I had gone into the movie without reading anything before hand, I would had thought it was meant to be funny (a joke) that the robot thought Londo was in love with her.  Also when the robot was killed that he was just upset about loosing a friend.  The whole Pansexual thing would not even had occurred to me.

I'll admit I only said that to annoy thismeintiel. I didn't think he'd be that quick to call me a SJW though.

I'm a naughty boy. Sorry

I don't really think it means that at all. Not that I would mind one way or the other if they do have more female/minority leads, but I just don't see the correlation. If Solo flops, it's because the "Star Wars audience" was/is incredibly angry with the horrendous writing of The Last Jedi, and the way that Disney/Kathleen Kennedy responded to that, which was basically "meh…..you'll go see the next one anyway, so fuck off." You got a lot of people, rightly or wrongly (because I highly doubt it will have the intended effect), pretty much using this movie as a protest against the way Kennedy is running Star Wars.

Of course, it'll have the desired effect. DC Film had a management shakeup when JL bombed. Sony stopped their whole GB plans after the the remake flopped due to 1) not being good and 2) the cast and crew insulting the fans of the original, the vast majority of which had legit criticisms, as women hating basement dwellers.  And here, we have cast and crew doing the same crap that cast and crew did for GB. Politics first, bash the "haters" second, then third, make a movie.

Trust me, if Solo and Ep9 bomb, or even greatly disappoint, Disney is either going to shake up management or put Kennedy and crew on a leash, or they'll just have to convince investors why it's fine for Disney to throw tons of their money down a hole just to push Kathleen Kennedy's political agendas.

If Solo and Episode 9 come up (far) short of Disney's projections, then sure, that'll cause some form of shake up, but if it's just Solo, I wouldn't be so sure. With the DC films it was a case of them getting progressively worse over a number of movies, and then Justice League was simply the straw that broke the camels' back. The Ghostbuster remake...I mean it was one movie. Would they have liked to have it do well, and set up several sequels, ya I'm sure they did, but that's a case of the thing never even getting off the ground and running, so it doesn't correlate really.

Of the three new Disney Star Wars movies before this one, 2 of the 3 were generally quite well received by fans, and even the one that wasn't still made bank. So if Solo flops, chances are Kennedy will get a stern talking to, and Episode 9 might be pushed back a bit to make sure they don't muck things up further. Then they'll wash their hands of that trilogy and find a way to start from scratch so everyone buys into the hype again.

The Ghostbusters was being planned as a franchise. After the first one the shelved it.

Wb did not wait till JL. They restructured and replanned after BvS, SS and WW as well trying to save the franchise

Ok, so it was planned. But again, it never got off the ground, so it was still very easy for them to just write it off.

And I know there was some reshuffling before Justice League, but a lot of those changes were very surface level. After Justice League completely bombed, they were like ok enough, lets bring the guy who's been running our horror division, turning small budget flicks into big hits, in here to oversee this mess. Lets stop letting these DC movies be their own little enterprise within WB, Geoff Johns...sit down, Jon Berg...kick rocks, etc.

Yep. They even made the company Ghost Corp before the film released, which was going to handle the franchise.

I saw Solo last night. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Of the 4 Disney Star Wars movies, I would put it at #4. For the record I really thought the Last Jedi was great, so I don't see the issues Solo being in any way related to the Last Jedi.

Without going into spoiler territory, let me say that one thing that I wanted from Solo was to feel like I was watching young Harrison Ford and young Billy D Williams having an adventure together. I didn't get that feeling. The characters just didn't feel the same as the originals. However Chewbaca was awesome. In general there was a lot to like, but also a few things that bothered me and kept me from being fully engaged into the story. So the movie was good but not great.
