Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 Won April NPD ( PS4 > NSW > XBO)

If GoW can push PS4 this much after 4 years on the market, Pokémon will push the Switch significantly. I don't think we can question Nintendo's estimate.

On another note, I don't get why people defend the sales of a console by the lack of games. Games is what make a system and lack of games is a weakness of a console and not an excuse. Switch is selling Ok but for the last few months people feel the need to defend the Switch by claiming the lack of games.

Indeed, I have to agree it's ridiculous, but is also ridiculous people trying to invalidate a side by side comparison with PS4 to continue with their doom and gloom narrative just bc it was $100 more expensive. Like if during its 2 year, PS4 was in such a huge disavantage  bc of its $400 price tag compared to switch $300 right now... How was the competition for PS4 during that time? Guess this would be a better putting than talk about the lack of AAA games.

It was a early May release, if im not mistaken. And by the looks of it, NPD got the initial sales of that game.

"Top sellers were God of War, Far Cry 5, Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze."

That should a huge system seller on switch imo, first great 2d platformer on the system. switch should get a boost in may i think from DK. probably got a light boost in april.

Well, rayman legends & sonic mania have been out for a while. Haven't played the latter but just played through rayman for the 1st time and imo is a better game than DKTF in every category - was blown away!

Unless you meant first Nintendo exclusive great 2d platformer?

yup that's what i meant. sonic mania and rayman can played on any other console or PC, heck rayman is even on lastgen consoles.

Yes I agree. But I will say that the PS4 selling for $400 has given Sony a chance over the years to to drop the price to stimulate sales. Something that Nintendo have less opportunity to do.

I don't get what you are saying here....

You make it sound like the PS4 was selling at $400 just for laughs and giggles. It sold at that price cause thats close to what it cost sony to make it. And no matter how its looked at, a $400 price point is more prohibitive than a $300 one. I mean, its just common sense, if the PS4 sold x number of consoles at $400, it would have sold more than that at $300.

And nintenod is free to drop prices too,, unless of course Nvidia doesn't play ball.

Over the last couple of posts talking about this issue its beginning to read as if somehow launching at a higher price is an "advantage" as oposed to being a hurdle to overcome as quickly as possible.

Gotta find ways to make things look better on our side of the argument you see?

I don't completely disagree with either side of the argument because neither is wrong.

And the point I made about the PS4 selling at $400. What do you disagree with? The point I made is that PS4 selling so well at $400 puts Sony at a much better advantage because they have more room for price drops to stimulate sales than Nintendo.

I don't think I was downplaying Sony in any way.

What?

That’s the sales you get when you release software (Labo) as bad as Wii music. Labo has put a stain on the Switch. Now Nintendo has to work hard to clean that up.
