Forums - Sales - European Hardware sales now on the Database

Assuming these number are at least pretty accurate I come to a few conclusions.

The PSP is selling much better in relation to the DS in Europe + other regions than it is in Japan or the US.

Handhelds overall are dominating Europe right now (206K sold last week to 107k combined for the big three consoles).

The PS3 and 360 are both selling poorly in relation to everything else. No PS2 numbers but I'm pretty sure if we had them they'd be higher than the 360.

The most Nintendo dominated country is France, closely followed by the UK. The most Sony friendly country is Spain. The UK is the mostly 360 friendly country though the DS, PSP, and Wii finished ahead of the 360 in every single country measured.

Good to see euro numbers but are the uk ps3/xbox360 numbers right? On the weekly official chart track software top 40 the ps3 has as many ps3 games on the chart as the xbox360 has and on the amazon top sellers list in the uk the ps3 is ahead of the xbox360 99% of the time and is always in the top 10. Yet on the vgcharts numbers the xbox360 is out selling the ps3 by 2 to 1?!?

Yes, it is magnificient how times can change eh? :P

 Except they havent

At the moment Xbox 360 is in front..

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/videogames/ref=sv_vg_h__3/202-9454618-2341428

And not many buy there console from Amazon, I think..

I buy alot from amazon and the ps3 is ahead of the 360 99% of the time. As i typed my message it was ahead of the xbox360 yet again. Amazon's top 40 games sold is usually pretty close to chart tracks top 40 games sold, so their for the hardware rankings should be roughly the same as well. In a nut shell i think the uk numbers for the xbox360 and the ps3 are wrong.

But under normal circumstances they are rather bad in Xbox 360 stuff. Local stores offer in many cases better deals. But I vaven't seen such offers for the PS-3 yet (in normal department stores). So I wouldn't be surprised surprised if their numbers for the Xbox 360 would be pretty bad. Their statistics look tempting but I think the real market can look quite different.

You are awesome, Ioi! I love you (in some way ) I just posted them on a Newsboard + source of course. So maybe we´ll get some Advertisement for vgchartz now. Fact is, you are faster than Media Create and NPD so people should become aware of this in some time. And you are the only source for europe numbers, so there is no other company to fight with you on that

The fact that lots of games are sold in amazon doesn't mean that lots of consoles are sold in amazon... One thing is software, another thing is hardware, it's almost certain that most people use amazon more for software than hardware.

Not to mention that amazon UK sells software to many countries, but AFAIK only sells hardware to the UK itself...

I am not saying Ioi is putting fake numbers purposedly ,of course .But his sources dont seem unbiased . Each time is harder and harder to deny the evidence this site has something against the PS3 .When it was only that ioi was Wiigamer and the Wii numbers were too high by say half a million it was bad enough. The same when some moderators, administrators and posters entered daily the Sony doomed and Sony is screwed posts with the same joy as the Wii will win ones .But right now things are done in a very subtle way and always in the same direction . I mean ,examples : Japan numbers are always somewhat inflated here from the Media Create ones .Apparently it was due to vgchartz adding the numbers from other minor asian regions .Well ,for the last weeks the numbers for all the other consoles are somewhat inflated ...except for PS3 wich sales are reported to be lower than the sales given by Media Create . The NA number for PS3 ,while we had monthly data ,was made exactly by adding the Canada and the US number from NPD .OK with that .The issue comes when the numbers for both the X360 and Wii were those two numbers plus a good 15-20K plus .Why the difference ?If they were adding another country more (say Mexico ) then the PS3 should have as well some extra sales isnt it ? More ,wednesdey when they posted their estimations for the weekly NA sales the Wii was augmented in the frontpanel by about the same number ,the X360 was augmented by the same number ...and the PS3 was at 3.21 and despite vgchartz reporting some 20K sales it remained at 3.21 until the japanese data came when they put it to 3.22 .Either the link to add the PS3 sales dont work or something strange happens here . And now the european data .My god ,for the few official data we have from Gfk we know some german and UK data .We have also some software numbers for Spain ,UK ,Italy ......Well ,the usual data is PS3 16-17K weekly for UK and monthly for germany..against some 9-10K for the X360 in its "best markets " .This european sales data doesnt have any sense for anyone living here ,for what we know right now the PS3 is selling significantly better than the X360 and not very far from the Wii .For gods sake ,people are changing their X360 and games for the PS3 to purchase it at 350 euros ,all the online sales sites show the PS3 ahead ,the only official data we have shows the PS3 beating it by about 35-40% and yet here they come with some data that would mean the PS3 has sold 87K in two months in the whole PAL territory .This seems nearly like a mockery ,especially since we have seen weekly sales of 17K in Uk alone. From the launch in Rusia and Arab Emirates ,not a single word ,not a single unit added when the launchs occurred .The same with New Zealand ,one of the few countries were the Sony consoles are beating the Nintendo ones even in the handheld field . More on european sales ,I told ioi some months ago that Sony had recently announced in november last year 1 million PSP sold in Spain some 650K of wich correspond to 2006.That has even been confirmed by Nintendo by the way of providing their number and giving their market share ...PSP had more than 1 million here back november for some 1.5 million DS .Well ,it doesnt matter ,vgchartz numbers show the number of PSP sold in Spain in 2006 at 350K since then . Another example ,I have told several times that the Wii isnt sold out in my country since at least debut march ,other are reporting the same about scandinavian countries etc .Yet Ioi insists each time he writes something about Wii sales that "shipped equal sold everywhere " .He just doesnt want to hear otherwise ,thats what leads me to think he or his sources at least arent as impartial as they would like . You may prefer to ignore all this and keep saying good work and fantastic and using these numbers as facts but this site is deviating more and more from what I liked .That was ,official data ,we add it .And a great database that has dissappeared in the NA .All this discussing in the forums ,putting estimations we dont know where they come from....

Nice job. except that Uk Wii numbers seems to high : Two weeks ago, UK Nintendo manager said ": “We’ve sold close to 438,000 Wiis in the UK in five months" (it was on May, the 11th) (instead of 595,733 on vgchartz week ending 13th) http://www.mcvuk.com/news/26994/Nintendo-hardware-sales-revealed But it' very nice to have some european numbers ! Keep going !

well, five monhts from december is the end of march. I think438000 were the sales at march 31. If you look at march 31 numbers on vgchartz for uk you have 453000, so a very good extimation

Uh ?? let's see...

With Wii released on December 8th, Five month later is....May 8th...

Come on !! You can't be serio ?

May 8th is not "the end of march" !! maybe you can say that April 8th is something like "end of march" but not May 8th...

Diomedes, his numbers always seem to corrolate closely to the other sources ones considering all numbers are estimates.

As for your NZ comment, Im from NZ and I know plenty of people with Wii's and DS's none with PS3's  and 2 with PSP's.

It might just be my region but I havent even heard of anyone having a PS3 because they cost $1200 NZ which is just crazy.

I don't think you totally understand what ioi is trying to do here. If all he wanted to do was repost numbers from other sources (NPD, Media Create, Famitsu, etc), he could, and this site wouldn't be any different than any of the others. Instead, he's trying to differentiate this site from others and provide something that doesn't exist anywhere else. Weekly American Numbers and Weekly European Numbers are what he's been shooting for for awhile now. This didn't just hit him one day. He's been researching, collecting data, and God knows what else.

Like I've suggested to others that question the numbers, send a PM to ioi and ask him how he gets this information. He has a right to keep his sources confidential.
