5K USD isn’t exactly a lot of money these days. Unless you have an income based investment plan, I wouldn’t bother investing such a small amount; or even in a savings account. I’d get something fun, a few games, and dump it into your spending account.

Just be happy about it. I earned some good money in the last few weeks, but today my wife told me she shopped clothes for 300 € but doesn't have any money to pay the bills. Guess who has to do just that now. Yeah. I hate my life.
Granted, it's not that much, but I'm still frustrated as hell. If she would have asked me before, fine, I would have given her the money, no problem. But just spending it and telling me afterwards? That just sucks. Seriously. Don't do that. Why am I telling that in this thread right here? Probably because I'm half-drunk. =P

- Some nice sightseeing in the US
- Beach holiday at hawai / california
- A trip to Japan
- Visit places in Europe that are not the main targets for terrorists. Italy and Spain for example.
Maybe you could even travel with friends / parents / someone you really like?

Put $2k in the bank. Take $2k for travel expenses to Vegas. Gamble the final $1k, and have a good time. If you lose it, you had a vacation and you still have $2k in the bank. If you win some money, even better.

Almost all of Europe is completely safe. There is no real terrorist problem there.

I've given this some more though. Here's what you should actually do:
Give $1500 to a trusted friend, so that he/she can use it to bail you out of jail if necessary.
Buy a round trip ticket to Las Vegas for 3 days.
Get to Vegas, buy some coke, find some hookers, and have an awesome weekend.
