The problem is the first one also makes no sense.  

The first one is the problem, not the second one.

The 500 Million PS4 are limited to 50000 units worldwide and sold out in an instant - yet they keep staying in the Gamestop list for over a week now for some reason. There's absolutely no chance at all Gamestop is still selling those unless people keep abandoning their buy and Gamestop gets to sell them again and again, which I doubt is happening.

The bigger problem is that it's holding all the top scoring areas and clogging them up. It makes the points system inaccurate for the rest even if we simply ignore them.

I may be wrong, but the situation with the 500 Million PS4 might indicate the Gamestop's charts are not based on best selling products, but the most looked at online which might explain why a sold out product is still charting high even if we know there's no additional shipment.

Again, I may be wrong, but this is the most plausible option I can think of.

I was thinking about that possibility, too. I could very well be, but we have no proof.

Still, until now it has been working pretty well, so let's wait and see what NPD will tell us.

Yeah we should wait for NPD results to confirm this. 

While it’s not proving anything, the limited edition might be the hint we need to better understand how ranking algorithms are working.

And my professional experience with Gamestop, I doubt they changed their way of tracking units sold on a daily basis.

Man I am just waiting for Aug results they will tell a lot and Sept will also be very weird as well....but we are going into the holiday season and things are about to get crazy all over for all 3!
