Forums - Microsoft - Sea of Thieves - Metacritic/Review thread - Metascore: XBO - 69 (69 reviews) PC - 68 (23 reviews)

Looks to me that they rushed the game out with the promise to update in the future.

I just dont like it when games do this. Whether it be GT sport, Sea of Thieves, or even Splatoon 1, this has stop. No more shipping unfinished titles, unless they specify themselves that they are early access/unfinished clearly to the consumer.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Not surprised at all by this..

For a very long time I've been saying it would not score well critically. Saw this coming from a mile away.

Rare has really went off the deep end this time ...

"Underwhelming" is how I would describe their performance so far this generation and I think it's time that they meet the same fate as once Lionhead Studios did. Shutting the doors should be Microsoft's priority at this point when the studio is left festering to rot due to poor management ...

Rare has been profitable nearly every year while LH was bleeding money. I don't see them closing anytime soon

SoT already surpassed my expectations with over 1m players, I think MS will be happy with it's performance.

Do you know why they are profitable though? Due to assets and recharges (providing services to other MS studios), they are not profitable due to games as far as I can see.

Their Kinect games sold over 10m iirc and rare replay and viva pinata were modest success.

Erm no thanks, I would love to see more from Rare. And as much as you hate the game, others actually love it. Its unique and something new. I much rather more risks like SoTs than the same old sequels we get every year.

Why would you support shutting down a studio?

his philosophy is that "the developers are only as good as their last release"(paraphrasing). Its obviously a very flawed philosophy because if studios were shut down after one bad outing, so many great games we know and love wouldn't exist.

I’m not condoning Rare shutting down, but is this Rare’s first bad game? What else have they made recently? I think their most recent releases were Kinect games, so that may be unfair to judge. What was the last non-Kinectgame made by Rare that was good?

Kinect was years ago. Sea of Thieves is actually the first game in a long time. I suspect that will show up in profits from June 2018.

"Going concern"

The company generates income predominantly from recharges made to other MS group companies. Therefore the future profitability of the company is dependent on the company and grounds ability to continue to develop video games software and market these successfully.

The company is showing strong net current asset and net asset positions.

They go on about how they have a letter of support from MS to guarantee the solvency of the company and have sufficient financing for 12 months from the date of signing.

I reckon something happened that we're not aware of. This game has been in development for at least 3 years (I think) and the only enemy I've seen so far after watching gameplay is skeletons? I also noticed that when you kill pigs they just fade out. After all this time? We're going to hear about this in the not too distant future because I just don't understand how this can happen to a AAA developer supported by what is said to be the wealthiest console manufacturer on the planet. Here's a comment from one of the devs who posted about it on Reddit:

Its been in development for a little more than three years, I believe. Four years is what I last recall. I could be wrong though. Crackdowns been in development for more than four years though.

MS Rare being MS Rare

Right?....It's pathetic. We should just wait for Gears and Halo and be done with this gen from MS.

What's bad though? Is that based off your experience? What if others out there love it? Is this just a score related reply? Because that would mean its average if basing it on the 67 meta. Is bad for you bad for everyone else? Curious?

Lets take a look at the list

(All Rare Kinect Games had average reviews but also sold well so lets exclude the Kinect Titles)

Viva Pintra 84

Perfect Dark Zero 81

Nuts and Bolts 79

Kameo 79

Grabbed by the Ghoulies 66 < There last 60 metacritic game was on the OG Xbox.
