Not sure its gona start dominating the Wii at 200 quid, Wii is wierdly poular with older peeps. Should laugh off 360 efforts though and catch up very quickly.

Ynwa.

I wish Sony would just drop the price now.

I don't they will though cause they need to make money - like MS is doing.

I'm somewhat sad to see PS3 doing better in NA, price cut will not become a reality for a while here. oh well.

OT. PS3 will sell on the average of 138,769 per week in NA

i say 240k WW

Why do people think the PS3 will get a second (third if you include the gap between 20GB cancellation and 40GB introduction) $100 price drop.

What do you think? That Sony hates money?

IBM and Toshiba are still on track to move the Cell and RSX to 45nm mid-year, thus significantly improving yields, and IBM has also solved issues with the SPEs, thus improving yields of the Cell further still. They've also been having some good success marketing the Cell to the embedded market, meaning economies of scale drop faster. Add that to other falling component costs, especially the Blu-ray diodes, and Sony will have slashed a significant amount off of their per-unit production cost.

Meaning, they can cut the price by $100 at that point and still make money on every console sold in the US. Which, I believe, they will be more than happy to do... Microsoft's next drop will likely be another $50 drop, and once it's dropped $50, it won't move again for a bit. It's entirely likely Sony will use their significant cost reductions this year as an opportunity to attain price parity with the 360 in the US since they could do so without incurring financial losses as long as IBM and Toshiba stay on schedule with their respective development roadmaps.

Where are people getting this idea that Sony has made a tonne of cost reductions and that Microsoft has been stagnant?

It's not that anyone has been stagnant, it's the fact that Sony's technology had more room for a price reduction. It started out more expensive and had a blu-ray drive with a complex CPU. The technology is newer and manufacturing costs will obviously go down because of that.

I would say after a 100$ price drop the ps3 would sale around 220k a week.

I'm guessing more than 200k, maybe around 230k

i predict fanboys overestimating the price drop severely. Also, Japan doesn't need a price drop. It already had one, and the sales have actually gone done from last year.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

id say a hover around the 250k plus mark, once bigger games and full on bluray acceptance it would rocket above 300k

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I'd think definitely around 240,000-250,000 a week. Hell, a ps3 for $299!!!

That would be an INCREDIBLE price....INCREDIBLE.

I'd actually buy a second for my clubhouse in the woods instead of carrying the damn thing around.
