Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A new dedicated handheld?

This, we want 1 ecosystem.  A smaller, cheaper switch handheld would be welcome.

A smaller revision the size of PSP/Vita without detachable controls or TV play for $199.

Even if we consider techincally feasible to shrink down the console to a PSP size while maintaing a good battery life (which it isn't atm), there's no way you can cram 2 analog sticks, 2 triggers for each side plus other 10 physcal buttons in such a small space, the thing would be a hell to use and not very much portable anyways. It would offer an inferior experience on all fronts and it would sacrifice 2 of the system's main features.

I have a hard time believing that they cant make a smaller version by Fall 2019. Isnt the Tegra X2 the same power as the X1 with half the energy consumption?

As for buttons, Vita had 2 sticks, 4 face buttons, D-pad, start, select, home, 2 shoulders & touch pads on the back.

You're making it out to be way harder than it really is to make a Switch Mini.

Yep, multiple hardware configurations that are part of a single ecosystem is what Nintendo needs and based on the things Iwata said in 2014 about wanting to adopt  the strategy of Apple with iOS, i would say thats exactly what they plan on doing.

Apple has iPhone, iPad, iPod & Apple TV that belong to the iOS ecosystem and Nintendo could have a similar setup with Switch by adding a smaller, cheaper revision along with a bigger, more powerful revision and a microconsole revision.

Continue to upgrade each of these models every few years and you have a single evolving ecosystem going forward.
