Actually based on Amazon rankings, it seems that Switch will win February also in US, and from beginning of year until 18. February Switch already sold 400k units in Japan, so fall of a cliff is highly unlikely especially when later Switch will have bigger releases.

Switch sold 400k in February alone already? I thought it's average was 40-50k per week? 

I don't actually think it will fall of a cliff, just being polite to other peoples theories.

I can't because i'm with my phone right now, if you are so interested, find it. In any case, Aquamarine posted it sold 1606K on ERA just one month ago, and like i said we knew since 2012 of that ~1.6m range.

No in February alone, but from 1. January until 18. February.

I wasn't sure if NPD weeks start on Sundays or Mondays. December 31st was a Sunday.

The logic of the retail calendar set by the National Retail Federation is that if a four-week-January leaves out 4+ days at the end of January, it needs to be turned into a five-week-January; since your post reinforced that NPD weeks start on Sundays, in 2018 January 28-31 would have been left out in a four-week-January, so that's why the month became a five week period. This system creates the occasional oddity in tracking periods over the years.

Yep and sadly that means comparing Jan to Jan YoY is quite variable with the different tracking periods especially smashed between the strongest month and the strongest non holiday month.

Yes indeed!

I hope they can keep the ball rolling, and continue to build on this momentum. As someone that loves Consoles, Handhelds, VR, and especially the Games and Apps that they deliver, I would love to see the market grow to new heights.
