Forums - Politics Discussion - The sjw review by eurogamer on Kingdom Come: Deliverance

https://archive.fo/oHTNE

Just to clarify this game is historically accurate and contains no fantasy elements. It takes place at 1403 in the kingdom of Bohemia. To be honest, the review is alright until you get to the end of where this silly crap is brought up.

"But there's also a big problem. There are no people of colour in the game beyond people from the Cuman tribe, a Turkic people from the Eurasian Steppe. The question is, should there be? The game's makerssay they've done years of research and found no conclusive proof there should be, but a historian I spoke to, who specialises in the area, disagrees."

"You just can't know nobody got sick and stayed a longer time," he says. "What if a group of black Africans came through and stayed at an inn and someone got pregnant? Even one night is enough for a pregnancy."

This isn't to say Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a hotbed of racism, because it isn't. The Turkic Cumans speak a different language and are a hostile enemy, which seems like a limited portrayal but no less so than any other war game I can think of. Then again, I'm white, so maybe I've missed things. And racism can take many forms, one of them being exclusion.

"More apparent to me was the back-slapping laddishness revolving around bedding women. I'm pursuing a love story over here, while over there bedding a noble and having one-night stands. That's in addition to my Troubadour perk which makes me even more irresistible to women and lets me use the "bathwenches" for free, which ties into a key mechanic of keeping yourself clean and patched up. It also means I get the Alpha Male buff (+2 to Charisma) because I've been satisfied and apparently it shows. It literally says that. The game's Codex even feels the need to describe the ideal woman of the time: "a thin, pale woman with long blonde hair, small rounded breasts, relatively narrow hips and a narrow waist"."

Reviewers should just keep this kind of crap to themselves. Modern day politics should stay out of gaming in my opinion. Do you agree? What do you think of this review?

Should Politics stay out of games? Well no, they shouldn't. I used to have that opinion, but I think over time I came to the conclusion that saying "politics should stay out of gaming" is more often than not just a way of saying you don't like the portrayal of something in a game. Which is totally fine and legitimate, but doesn't mean we should generalize it to politics as a whole staying out of games.

Does that part of the review sound like total ass? Yeah.

Don't give them traffic by linking to the clickbait-article, make a archive.is version and link to that.

Its racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic and I am deeply deeply offended.

I gave you the link, just replace your link with it.

In the future go to https://archive.fo/ and use this simple webpage.

the complaint about the lack of black people seems like a bit a stretch to me and I don't mind women being treated badly if it's historically accurate, but the one mechanic about getting more charisma for getting laid does seem pretty infantile.

And I disagree that politics should stay out of games, as a matter of fact I'd argue we need more of it. Every other media tackles those subjects without issue, videogames need to do the same imo.

I make game analyses on youtube:

Shadow of the Colossus: https://youtu.be/9kDBFGw6SXQ
Silent Hill 2: https://youtu.be/BwISCik3Njc

The ironic(and really funny)thing is, charachters in the game being "macho", as in having multiple relationsships and/or having "hookers" on the side, is actually very accurate, as having multiple bastards for the time, especially for the nobles, was very common.Being "romantic" and faithful is more of a recent trait of humanity(not that it hasnt been idealized since the beginning of time), and not something mans and womans have been supporting since ancient times, at least in practice.

As for the part where he feels its unfair to not put black people in the game, he might as well complain that there are also no asian humans there.Sure that one odd black person might have been there and contituted family, but there are no historical data to prove it, or at the very least they werent there at an significant ammount. As a side note, white slaves were the first kind of slaves to have in europe, since it was way easier to have them and transport them due to proximity and transportation methods(and I mean, a slave is a slave, no matter the color), in case someone thinks that black people might have lived there due to that.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Yes because years of research can be easily countered by a hypothesis with no real evidence other than the random logic of "maybe perhaps it happened!"
