PS4 shipments 2014-15.4 million

NSW shipments 2017-14.86 million

Ah, yes such a massive difference. Also its launch month was the equivalent of a regular quarter so there is no advantage for either of them.

PS4 had a ton of big hits by the end of 2014. 2 Call of Duty, 2 Assassin's Creed, 2 Madden, 2 FIFA, 2 NBA, MLB, WWE, Destiny, Watch Dogs, Grand Theft Auto, Far Cry, Last of Us, InFamous, Killzone, DriveClub, Wolfenstein, Evil Within, Dragon Age, Shadow of Mordor, etc.

Lets not pretend like Switch had a hundred mega sellers while PS4 had table scraps.

Cod ghost was really bad and advanced warfare was meh.

from the list only GTA V, Destiny and Fifa were truly helped to boost the sales of the Ps4.

The evil within, Dragon Age, Shadow of Mordor, Killzone, Wolfenstein and Driveclub? Really?

Yes, really.

Your opinion of those games is irrelevant, almost all of those games are multimillion sellers and moved hardware.

He's so clueless on this subject that he said Switch got most of its big guns in 2017. I mean... Zelda was never one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. It actually sold around 5m per entry, they have lots of games that usually do 10m+. Super Mario Odyssey is a 3D Mario, which is not as big as 2D Mario. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is "niche", Fire Emblem Warriors and Pokkén Tournament are spin offs and Arms is a new franchise. Splatoon was also not among Nintendo's biggest franchises, but I can see it becoming one of them on Switch. The only thing you could say released last year that is one of Nintendo's biggest guns is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is a port btw (meaning they could release another one in some years).

So there's still 2D Mario, Animal Crossing, Pokémon (at least 2 games), Super Smash Bros., and probably a new Mario Kart to come. Not to mention new stuff like Labo that can really take off like Wii Fit, for example.

we been over this again, and no i'm not clueless at all. the 4 big games released this year will outsell  the 4 games you mentioned easily, never mind that they hit the jackpot with zelda, and 3d mario. its also telling you only have 4 more franchises to list, basically nintendo released half its big franchises in one year.

I think most of this site would disagree with this statement.

ps4 announced sold through  numbers, it puts them them at 14.5 million, while switch we don't know, probably around 12.5-13 million, and you are comparing  yearly franchises to nintendo once in generation type games  , nintendo doesn't have that kind of third party support which is exactly my point.

So you think PS4 had less than 1 million shipped vs sold difference at the end of 2014 while Switch had over 2 million difference end of 2017?

Ya like LipeJJ said, youre clueless.

Are you seriously suggesting that each of these games:

Breath of the Wild
Super Mario Odyssey
Splatoon 2
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

will sell more than EVERY ONE of these games? And not just sell more, but easily sell more?

2D Mario
Pokémon (!!!)
Animal Crossing
Super Smash Bros.

I mean, if you think that BotW, Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and MK8D are all going to sell over 16 million copies, then your entire viewpoint makes no sense at all. Huge software numbers would easily imply huge hardware sales as well.

i dont expect 2d mario not to be huge at all, smash will do like zelda numbers, probably less, Mario Odyssey will be the future bundled mario game since, it will be old by the time 2d mario game comes out, and will do over 20 million, along with mario kart doing 18 million.

ps4 shipped ltd 19.9 million, they announced 18.5 million sold through, IDK what switch had. it could be over 2 million difference easily, everything is a guess till nintendo give out official numbers, so far we only have 13 million as of jan 30, so no  need for the clueless comment when you are the one. 3ds first year they way over shipped they had a 2.5-3 million difference between sold through.

And I listed 5 franchises, which is more than enough if they put out 2 per year. Not to mention second versions of the big franchises you mentioned and new IPs. lol

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

you forgot mario kart 8, both mario games will do over 40 million together and zelda is on its way to 10 million, splatoon maybe 8 million, thats 58 million, pokemon will do 20 million, the other 3, 35 million together, not that clueless when you think about things ;)

Switch

Switch's first year was good, and this year will be disappointing. I don't think we will see Pokemon until 2019. That is when Switch sales will really take off like a rocket. It will also get much better third party exclusives in 2019 and beyond.

Switch sales are going to surprise everyone here, even the Nintendo apologists. It will become the best selling console of all time.

Fun fact: PS2, the best selling console in history, had a paltry first year of only 3m. Wii, which ended up selling tens of millions less, sold 14m in its first year.

First year sales aren't indicative of lifetime sales.

I completely agree.    Also DS sales were somewhat disappointing its first year.

I'm pretty sure Switch sales will be disappointing this year, but once Pokemon comes out it will sell like never before.
