Forums - Gaming Discussion - >90 METACRITIC: The Nintendo Switch has more Games than PS4 and XB1 together (First Year)

Guys, it's already heated in here and we're barely at 30 posts. If you're looking for an opportunity to critique the OP (or topic, in general), do so in a way that's meaningful. If it is just to bash what's happening, you should probably find another topic to join. I'd just prefer everyone remain civil, and if possible, helpful. Give credit where due and not turn things into a tug-of-war.

This is not a Warning at the moment. Just consider it when posting. Thanks, everyone. :)

Maybe people get upset because op missed out games and counting others twice (Bayo) just to make a headlines that fits his agenda.

Sounds like trying to refit events to me. The guy I was replying to didn't voice concerns about anything legitimate to be honest and just got mad at the pure idea of this thread. Also, everything you said has already been addressed. You're right, he shouldn't have Bayonetta twice.

He actually only missed one game. Flower. Which means the Switch still won. Not a big leap but it's his idea for a thread.

Ps4 (5+1) +XBO (1+1) > Switch (8-1)

So the title is incorrect.

The switch still has a month so that could probably change but for now the title is wrong. I have nothing against those threads, but when op uses a provoking headline which obviously triggers people here, it should at least be correct.

Sony always starts slow so im not surprised, (same thing will happen with the PS5 im calling it now).

Fair enough. Given the opportunity, how would you revise it?

Ahhhh ... wow. Am I going crazy? I could have sworn the thread title was the Switch has more >90 Metacritic games than PS4 first year. I didn't see it as PS4 combined with Xbox? Odd. I wonder if the title was changed? Or maybe i'm just going crazy Probably that.

Yeah, so this thread is more inaccurate than I even originally thought. Weird. Welp, maybe it is meant to provoke, maybe it isn't. I'm not going to judge the OP like that cause I don't really know. It could be a genuine error on his part. It's still an accomplishment to match to seperate systems in game magnitude for 90+ on M. But maybe a more accurate title is needed.

Maybe just:

Then its a good thing we dont live in the past right?
What does this baised 1st year "only" methode achive but make Switch look better than it is?

Well ... as someone who actually does get tired of those pointless Switch threads that repeat what's been said a million times before just to gloat endlessly about a console ... this is actually a pretty meaningful statistic.

First of all, it means that the Switch already has more games that are beloved than the PS4 did in the same time frame. This already puts it at a comfortable spot for those wondering whether or not a first year Switch purchase is right for them. Secondly, having more "quality" games than your competitor is always going to be an important point no matter the circumstance, so I honestly don't see why you think it would be any different in this scenario. Third, think about the implications of this. If Nintendo try even a little bit to keep up some momentum with 90+ games, they will either end the generation near PS4's total amount or even beating it. Simpleton is right here, if someone starts and beats their competitor early than it's a game of catch up for the competitor. PS4 will be hard to beat due to it's tremendous third party support, but Switch is having a good start.

Of course, part of this isn't due to the Switch. Celeste, Steamworld Heist and Shovel Knight, for instance, aren't really products of the Switch's 1st year. The Switch just happened to launch when those titles were already made or closed to finish. But then again, neither are many other games on the PS4's list.

No offense intended but it honestly seems like you're more upset by the result shown than the logic leading to it ... because a list like this is honestly pretty logical. Sure, it comes from a place of bias most likely, but then again so does almost every thread on this site regarding positive news console manufacturers.

Disputable. I'd argue sales are a much greater indicator of something being "beloved" than metacritic scores. Not only are some of those games incredibly niche, but I'm sure there's people that think of them as absolute trash. For starters in that list there's Fez with a user score of only 6.3, sure user scores don't mean much but when there's that much of a difference between user score and critic score there's got to be questions asked about how "beloved" it actually is.

Fez is on the PS4 side of the list, none of the Switch games show an out of touch or heavily distorted difference between the user score and the reviewer score. But you're right, the language I used is very up to debate. I should have used air quotes for "beloved" too. Notice how I did air quotes for "quality". That's because metacritic doesn't mean shit for my personal tastes. I use it as nothing more than a way to see other people's interests and the general consensus. Nothing is set in stone. But even the consensus is up for debate.

I was just picking on the easy target

But I meant it more in the other way, ie. just because a game didn't get a 90+ metacritic score doesn't mean that it's not beloved.

Thats exactly my problem with those lists. When you set the bar at 90 most of the big games won't be included. The best game of 2014 for example is Dragon Age Inquisition with 134 GOTY awards. This game has for sure a greater impact on the console than some small indie with under 10 reviews that 95% of the users never bought or heard about.
