Because there hasn't been a home console Monster Hunter since the PS2 days and the console scene in Japan was very different back then.

I dont see how thats related to what i said.

Context doesn't matter?

EDIT: And to be sure, I doubled checked to see if I am wrong that PS4 games tend to fall in a range of 80%-85% in the 2nd week.

- Yakuza 0 fell by about 83% on the PS4
- Gravity Rush 2 fell by 79%
- Resident Evil 7 fell by 72%
- Yakuza Kiwami 2 fell by almost 80%
- Atelier Firis sold 27K first week and then sold less than 3.5K during the 2nd week
- SAO Hollow Realization dropped by about 78.5%
- Yakuza 6 dropped by almost 80%
- The Last Guardian fell by about 88%

So not quite 80%-85%, though most of the examples I have had larger drops than MHW. Of course, these are only a few examples. I bet there are plenty of examples that proportionally held up as well as MHW.

Switch's dominance in Japan is just...

That seems like a weird comparison.

Why would you pick random games instead of previous games in the series?

Even then your numbers dont seem accurate.

What's so "weird" about his comparison?

In some ways, comparing MHW's legs to random PS4 games make a lot more sense than to compare them to 3DS MH games' (different price, huge install base disparity, MH's constant failures/underperformance on previous home consoles, etc). Both your comparison and his are perfectly reasonable as long as context isn't ignored. They just examine different things and provide different information.

Or is it taboo to observe how MHW legs out compared to other PS4 games?

Go back and look at his original post that i quoted.

If he was comparing it to FFXV or DQ11 or other big PS4 games that would make sense but he doesnt compare it to any particular games.

I think it makes most sense to compare to the big PS4 titles like FFXV or DQ11.

MGSV-85%

FFXV-88%

RE7-72%

DQ11-79%

So youre right, it did have a good hold compared to other  major PS4 games

It's always humorous to see live adjustments by MC/Famitsu as they have drastically different weeks but very similar totals.

Hardly. These games are not popular in Japan. At Least RDR is not.

That's not true. Western games this gen like gta 5 and the witcher have seen great growth in Japan on ps4. No reason rdr2 won't easily out perform rdr.

Point that some game had growth over previous game in Japan doesnt mean its heavy hitter in Japan.

GTA5 is regularly in top 10 best selling games on West, when GTA5 was in top 20 best selling games in Japan, probably only around GTA5 launch.

Last year, PS4 took 4 weeks in a row:
Week 25: PS4: 25,680 - Switch: 22,361
Week 26: PS4: 29,194 - Switch: 25,805
Week 27: PS4: 29,771 - Switch: 26,256
Week 28: PS4: 36,218 - Switch: 31,906

If PS4 takes next week, it'll have 5 weeks in a row:
Week 2: PS4: 43,808 - Switch: 37,500
Week 3: PS4: 52,507 - Switch: 43,027
Week 4: PS4: 140,145 - Switch: 47,107
Week 5: PS4: 109,287 - Switch: 49,165
Week 6: ?

Tbf its still supplu restraint. W2+W3 would be switch but w4 and maybe w5 ps4.

Oh, I'm not arguing that Switch isn't supply constrained.

I was just letting RaptorChrist know that two weeks in a row isn't PS4's record.

Switch slowly climbing to the 50k per week; great hold for Mario & Rabbits. And Switch is slowly dominating the charts with all it's leggy titles.

Skyrim Switch with 10k FW, how does that compare to the other versions of the game?

Monster Hunter World has a great hold, 2M seem basically guaranteed now despite the series generally being very frontloaded. Even offered itself the luxury this week of overtaking SMO and Pokemon USUM

A nice surprise! This game must be having good word of mouth there. Makes me happy to see.

Also Monster Hunter is doing naiiiiisu.

XC2 had digital and shipment by years end at 260k in Japan. Since the game is sold out the left over was mostly digital. Game will be 300k+ lifetime easily as its getting stock now

Easily. If what I think its right, and it keeps selling 2 or 3k every week until years end, it will sell another 100k/150k, which would put the game at 400k in Japan alone, and thats without digital.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
