Hello everyone! So, I’m “officially” a writer for the website now, so I’ll post new game reviews in the official section, but for older games I am going to continue posting them in these threads, enjoy!

*Special Note – When I review an “improved version” of a game, I’m reviewing it as if it is a brand new game.

Lego City Undercover Switch Review

I never got around to properly reviewing this game on the Wii U, which I should have considering I beat it years ago, but I just beat it a second time (this time on the Switch). The main difference this time was I was able to play with my wife the whole time and oh what a joy it was! Unlike many other Lego games, which force you into “on the roller-coaster” type situations and overstimulating fight scenes, City Undercover allows you to play as close to linear or as loose as you want. There would be times we would just run around and discover objects, destroy structures, and do those super builds for hours without touching the story. This is the way a Lego game should be!

We are playing Lego Superheroes 2 on the Switch now and, while I enjoy it, she misses the formula of Lego City and wants to know if there will be a sequel to it, and I don’t disagree. I can’t disregard what that means; Lego City captured something very unique in this day and age. It has both an exciting and fun open world to explore and has a good story. The game is hilarious, filled with contextually relevant jokes, and has surprising plot twists while also having other not so surprising ones (but they make fun of themselves for it, which makes it entertaining nonetheless).

The game is sharp looking, has a really funky mixture of music which goes well with the story structure, and has about as simple of a control pattern as you’d expect out of a Lego game (though learning how to fly with the pig was a challenge to my wife lol). I will say I wish the environment was totally Lego and not a mix of Lego and real life. Combine all of this with it having improved loading times over the Wii U version makes this a delightfully enjoyable game to play!

Congrats on being added to the writing team!

I never picked up the Wii U version, I've been hoping for this to drop a bit before I finally dive in. Didn't the Wii U version have a ton of Nintendo easter eggs, and are those on the Switch port? I'm guessing not.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I was very interested in this game when it was out on the Wii-U, but never got a chance to play it. Given my backlog is so much larger now, it's doubtful I will, but the interest is still there, so you never know. I always enjoy your reviews, and part of that comes from your Rube Goldberg scoring system. I give this review.....17/23. Maybe could have used a bit more meat. Good job though.

As far as I'm aware, there are just as many Nintendo easter eggs. I remember seeing one I didn't recognize the first time on Wii U, though I didn't explore that game as much as I have this one. And thank you!

It is the hidden gem of the Wii U, in my opinion, and it's so much fun in multiplayer, especially for those that don't normally like video games (such as my wife). We had a blast playing it!

Also, thanks for enjoying the review(s)! I had to look that person up! lol

Maybe my favourit game of Wii U.
I do not understand why sales are so slow.
I would say that even Mario 3D has a lot to learn from this game.

I also played it on 3DS and I am considering buying it for Switch.
Are there any improvements in the Switch version (loading times)?

Okay, that's probably what just sold me on the Switch version then! I was also a bit on the fence because nobody had an answer for that online, and I figured the Switch version would be a port of the PS4/XBO ports, with the exclusive goodies removed. Good to hear that's not the case!

Congrats to your promotion! I'm sure you are a great addition. I like your style.

Yep! Not a ton, necessarily, but it was noticeably quicker to me this time.

I could be wrong I guess, but I don't know why it would have some of them without the rest.
