Which timeframe ? Cause I'm pretty sure the Wii stayed on top of it and is still beating it atm.

The Wii sold 1m, in the US, on its first day? At one time, the PS4 was the fastest selling console, and if we're going to talk about the continuation, this is the year the Wii saw a tremendous decline.

Right, the first day. Well that's still not as impressive as 365 days. And at this point, pretty sure the DS or the PS2 is holding the title, no matter if the PS4 beats the Wii.

It went on to be the fastest selling for more than a day. You said it didn't happen at all. So, you were simply corrected and the DS/PS2 are irrelevant to this discussion.

Whoa cowboy, I said I didn't remember.

Why are DS and PS2 irrelevant when they are consoles and are the best selling consoles of all time. ? PS2 being the best selling one and DS the fastest selling console reaching what 30 million a year at one point ?

PS4 will become one of the best selling consoles of all time. But it's chances to have a new fastest selling console of all time headline are weak even if it beats the Wii, some consoles already did better.

At no point did you say this.

Anywho, the DS/PS2 are irrelevant because we weren't talking about the highest selling platforms. When you said the PS4 was "never the fastest selling system", I suspected that was incorrect. That's all.

Maybe... b-b-but I thought about it.. :(

And you were right, but I brought the DS as the fastest selling console reaching incredible peaks. PS4 will never reach that, but will perform more like the PS2 with incredible legs.

Well isn't exactly what I said ?

Fastest selling constantly changes depending on the timeframe. The PS2 is the "fastest" in its first 13 years.. The DS is the "fastest" in its first 3 years. The Wii is the "fastest" in its first 2 years. The PS4 is the fastest in its first 3 months. The Switch is the fastest in its first 12 months.

"fastest" isn't a very useful metric.

Sure, its not very useful to determine lifetime numbers but it is useful in seeing how a console is performing in a certain timeframe.

I dont think many people are saying, "Switch is currently the fastest selling, therefore it will always be the fastest selling"

You said the PS4 was never the fastest selling console. So, not quite.

No that the DS was the fastest selling console at some point...

Anyway we're debating for nothing let's just stop lmao.

I disagree. Seeing how much something sells in a certain timeframe can be very useful, but the term fastest sorta implies that it's useful for comparison with others. And you can't do useful comparisons of "fastest selling", especially not on something as short as a 12 month time frame, where the rather varying launch models of all the different consoles still has a tremendous impact.

People aren't claiming that the Switch will always be the fastest selling, but that wasn't what my post was about. It was just about the rather arbitrary way of picking whatever timeframe suits you best to do some cheerleading.

People shouldn't ignore the GBA in these discussions...

Which band was the fastest at becoming a sell out?
Perhaps another band was even a bigger sell out, but in a different time frame?
