Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Switch has sold-in (shipped) 14.86 million, 3DS 72 million, Nintendo's FY 2017 Nine Months Earnings

The 14.86 million figure for Switch is shipped units. However, even with it being shipped numbers VGC figures are undertracked (Most of it likely in Europe as we have hard data for the US and Japan). I will make the adjustments this week.

Edit: I see Nintendo said "The result is that hardware sales during this period totaled 12.13 million units." Interesting. That means 2.73 million consoles on store shelves or in transit.

Nope, that's April-December, so the launch period of March is missing (and was 2.7M, if you remember correctly)

I see no evidence to prove it is shipped either.

The evidence is that Nintendo almost always report shipped, and when they don't such as the 10m figure they explicitly state sold through to consumers. The "sales" in their financial reports are shipped figuree, as they always have been. They're not suddenly going to change their financial reports to sold-through after decades with no indication that is what they're talking about.

When have they stated they always report shipped. Like I already said they sold 1.5 million in America alone for December and American sales usually only make up a third of thr pie for Switch sales.

This is from ninendo. Says sales at the top so looks sold to me.

I don't think you understand that Sold and Sales are both used for shipped.

Definitely reads like shipped to me but if Nintendo really has analysed all retail sales from around the world to give a sold through number what is the actual number shipped, even higher?

Fantastic news whatever it means the greatest game developer continues with rude health and has the money to plough into future gaming hardware and software.

Sadly at this rate my hope for a cheaper Switch at retail is less likely, they really don't need to reduce the price for commercial reasons although I'm sure there will be a hardware revision this year but it seems less likely they will have to lower the price of it. Probably just update it to use a better fabrication process and an actual custom Tegra chipset rather than the off the shelf chip of the current model.

nintendo planning to ship 17.76m by march 31st. if they did indeed sell 14.86m by december 31st you would think shipped number would be around 16m december 31st. so nintendo will only ship 1.8m for the next 3 months

The 1.5m figure is for a 5 week period (the December npd). The "surpassed 10m" figure was given for as of December 10th. They did not go from "over 10m" to 14.86m in 21 days.

The USA sales for that 3 week period would probably be be around 0.8-1.1m.

Those a great number. Really high games to hardware rates.

It doesnt relly matter if it's shipped or sold numbers, its very impressive number in any case.

And we’re supposed to take your uneducated biased guess as opposed to actual figures from Nintendo?

They're planning to ship 17,76 millions units by the end of fiscal year because they sold 12,13 millions during this fiscal year. That's 5,5 millions shipping for the next 3 months.
