"Originally found by Gamegeschiedenis, classic photos show Nintendo literally taking the fight to piracy. The images, captured by various sources, show Nintendo using a roller in the Netherlands to destroy thousands of counterfeit games. Even Mario was present at the event."

“Video game company Nintendo is using a roller to combat piracy. At Lelystad airport ten thousand counterfeit video games were crushed. The Japanese company has started a targeted and structured worldwide campaign to combat forgeries of their video games. The destroyed games came from Hong Kong and were confiscated from a Dutch importing company.”

Times never change, while physical counterfeit copies are no longer such a big deal these days, Nintendo does however defend their IPs by DMCA-ing fan games and shutting down "HD" recreations on the internet. While I personally agree in the rights of most copyright owners to defend their creations, I know quite a few people on this site that disagree. What do you think, should Nintendo continue having Mario steam-rolling fan made games and recreations?

Mario was there in person? *Mafia theme plays*

The thing is that they need to defend their IP in EVERY case, because if they let it slide in a few cases, when it's a serious case the law will look back and be like "Hey, you remember that time when...? You must let it go this time too".

Indeed he was! Just re-added some pictures, hopefully it doesn't appear broken this time.

Don't know why, but on mobile if you click on the broken image and click view it shows up. idk why it keeps showing it as broken... :(

Basically this. Though this problem is mostly limited to tge US courts.

They're upfront about protecting their properties and combating piracy, so why not make a show of it? I'd watch Mario and Luigi wail on physical media with those Paper Mario hammers for a while.
