Please don't just post a link. Here is some of the story for everyone else.
Nintendo predicted this would happen, and it seems likely it may be a reality; the Switch has almost certainly outsold the entire four year lifespan of the Wii U in its first year. In its first ten months, to be specific.
While Nintendo will not officially release this information for a little while yet, according to the Wall Street Journal, Ace Research Institute is projecting that the company sold 7 million Switches around the world in the October to December holiday window.
If that’s accurate, that would mean that the Switch sold 14.6 million units by year’s end after its March 2017 launch. That also means that yes, Nintendo has outsold the entire 2012-2016 run of the Wii U its very first year, as that console only moved 13.56 million units before it was discontinued.

That estimate is for shipments.
Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Forbes is trash. They have no clue what they're talking about. Moving on.

The excerpt posted in this thread is competent. While Forbes contributors do have a questionable track record, there's no problem with the relevant information.

Wouldn't Nintendo confirm this themselves, if true? I know they don't like to remind people that the WiiU was a thjing, but selling 15m units in less than a year is an amazing milestone.

Except that Nintendo said that Switch sales were at 10 million on December 12th. https://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/nintendo-switch-sells-10-million-worldwide If Forbes and the WS Journal (owned by Fox News) are to be believed Nintendo magically sold 4 million more units for the remainder of December. Sorry but I'll take the more reliable source, Nintendo itself.
The Forbes, and WS Journal articles are nothing more than speculative clickbait, that ignore what Nintendo has already said.

Nintendo's announcement refered to sell-through, the analyst quoted in WSJ talks about shipments. December sell-through for Switch easily adds up to over 3m units, add units that are on store shelves and in transit, and then a shipment number that exceeds the Wii U's 13.56m isn't farfetched at all. You can argue that Switch shipments might be at 13.6m, 14.0m, 14.6m or whatever you believe the value to be at, but the premise of the article will remain true.
