Looks like Xbox came in second place based on this.

Well, he said that he has no idea, so his guess is as good as ours.

It could mean December share of the year as in the percentage of yearly sales coming from December is the highest in 2017 compared to 2016, 2015, and 2014. Who knows?

That would put Xbox December sales above 1.3m if that's what he means.

Which actually sounds reasonable. It's down YOY from December 2016, which I think most people expected, but not terribly so.

It would be interesting if xbox wins december, cause i would never had guessed.I don't believe this is the case, tho, only because they would definitely tell us if that was the case.

I think we can rule out 2 things, both for the same reason: Xbox One wasn't the best selling console in December, and it also wasn't the Xbox One's best December (and also month) to date. If either was the case Microsoft simply would have said so.

I can't believe Nintendo or Sony haven't tried to headhunt this guy yet

I double checked the NPD's classification of the Switch and they consider the Switch as a console.

He backtracked.

Okay guys, I will help you out. He says OUR highest Xbox One share. Our is the key word here. He is comparing it to the Xbox 360. Just assume when he says something, it is designed to confuse you.

Just checked: Microsoft discontinued the 360 in 2016 so he could be correct literally and still be in third place if he is referring to the 360.

Why:

The Xbox One won December 2014 with over 50% market-share.
There is no way that they beat that this year. There is no way it beat the Switch and PS4 combined.
BUT: the 360 was still selling very well in December in 2014 and he said OUR XBOX ONE marketshare.
Of all of the spin ever, this takes the cake though.

December 2014 Xbox had a 38% market share.

Just went back and looked at 360's December NPD marketshare history. 360 won December 2012 NPD by quite alot, and had a marketshare of over 50% for the month, so if he is comparing it to 360 then beating 360's highest share is impressive.

No, he is not saying that.  He is saying that since the Xbox One came the sales of 360 and One have been combined in their own chart internally. He is saying that the Xbox One outsold the 360 more this December than any other December (mostly on account of the 360 being discontinued and the X being lunched).  Any other interpretation is mathematically unsound.   Because of what you said, if they had beaten that they would have won and they did not announce that.  Trust me, this is how he operates.  Misdirection flows through him like air flows through the atmosphere.
