You can on XBox and PS4. You’re on Switch I assume.

I used to prefer physical, for collection reason.
But now, I only buy physical when I really want a collector's edition of a game I'm eagerly anticipating. Otherwise, I much prefer the convenience of digital.
I have a regular PS4, and 500GB of storage was really small. Then I got the PS4 Pro when I purchased my 4K TV, just in time for FF XV and Horizon shortly after. But that 1TB got filled very fast and I was left having to swap games in and out again...
So I got a 4TB external HDD, and now all my games are installed, and I still have 2.56TB left out of the roughly 4.5TB available. Should be closer to 5TB, but 4.5TB (counting both internal and external HDDs) is what's left after removing the huge system footprint. I think I should be ok for the rest of the gen.
Now, the Switch? I hope games don't take that much space in proportion to whatever SD card I'll choose to get. Most likely a 256GB, but I wouldn't want to have to carry multiple of them around after a year or two.
Today's console games have big downloadable patches even on day one and they also tend to require instalation. It makes digital more and more convenient over physical, especialy for those who have fast internet.
| LivingMetal said: This is not a "digital vs. physical media" debate. (Although I can see it evolving into one.) When there's an option to buy a physical or digital version of a game, my default choice is physical. But when it comes down to it, I'll buy digital if the physical version of the game is out of print, and the price of the physical version is too high beyond reason. I would have loved to own a copy of the Gravity Rush Remaster for the PS4. Original priced at $30, I should have pick it up when I can since it was a very limited run. It easily runs for almost 3x as much on eBay for the US version. You can get it on sale on the PSN for $15. So it was too tempting to pass up given the reality of the physical release on the gray market. Honestly, I'd buy a near mint copy of the original for $30 over the current digital sale price, but at this point I cannot really complain. Thankfully, Gravity Rush 2 has yet to succumb to gray market gouging. I'll be keeping an eye out on this one. What games would you have preferred to have a physical copy of, but had to resort to buying digital? |
That's pretty much exactly how I feel. Right down to Gravity Rush Remastered. I slept on the physical copy, couldn't get it anymore, and ended up buying it digitally on sale on PSN. Of course, there are digital-only games too. Like the Housemarque games, or EDF 2017 Portable on the Vita. Gonna bust out the CC and see if I can still order Drive Girls and Valkyrei Drive this morning. Drive!

I went full digital. I even repurchased every single physical XBO and PS4 game I owned in digital form. About a year ago but before that, I hated the idea. Now? Unless it's for 3DS or Vita, I'm downloading!
GamesI had to get digital despite wanting them physical are:
-Xenoblade Chronicles for (3DS)
-Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS)
-Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii/WiiU)
Aside from those few, I was usually able to find any game I wanted when I wanted a physical version. There's probably a couple more that I'm forgetting.
*Edit* and btw, I have a physical copy of Gravity Rush for PS4, too! 😁

Dear Gravity Rush remastered people, though I feel I already asked you, COKTOE, why no physical copy of the game from Europe? It's cheap over there. I got my copy in the Czech Republic for the equivalent of 10 or 15 euros (about the same in USD), forgot which.

I will do it, ( recently got Vita memory cards from Japan ) but generally don't like to order things tbh. My first choice is the stores close to me. I suppose I'm guilty of not making use of all the options available to me at certain times. It's a mental problem. :) But as far as Gravity Rush RM goes, it was on sale on PSN very soon after it's release, so I just went for it.

Gravity Rush is a good example. I've also had to buy digital versions of games that got published by Limited Run Games because I was unable to checkout fast enough. Thankfully, Play-Asia has done a good job of highlighting the Asian English games so that I can import physical copies of digital only releases here.
Been 100% Digital for years. I never want to have to go buy a disc again. Physical does not exist, and that is where this is going for everyone.

I'll certainly regret it if I ever decide to sell my PS4, but well...I shouldn't do such a sinful thing anyway.
