Seems alright. If 2017 was PS4's peak year then 2018 should still be very close to the 20m.

Seems like there’s a pattern, both are back to back 20m sales, if the PS4 exceeds 20m this year, will be a third time lucky

Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t the ps2 numbers shipped not sold? I don’t believe Sony ever reported sold numbers in their ps2 quarterly earnings reports.

Even if that's true, it doesn't really matter. To them, those are still sales. Hardly ever will you see anyone picking that apart when discussing what the PS2 did.

True. Not taking anything away from PS2. It’s my all time favorite console and deserved every one of its sales. And now PS4 is following right behind it. Good times. Can’t wait to see where it finally ends at.

Wii in 2009, 2008

PS2 in 2002 and 2003.

PS1 in 1998.

Both PS consoles are actually the FY numbers, since VGC doesn't have the tracking. Anyway, it's not usual at all. If we consider handhelds, the DS did if for 4 or 5 years. But that's pretty much it.



Bet with jetforcejiminy: PS4 will pass the Wii lifetime numbers.

20.2m for 2017 nice. That's the first time a console has sold over 20m in a year since the DS in 2010.

Where's that irstupid guy! He called people delusional for expecting the ps4 to sell as well in 2017 as 2016 because the Switch/XBO X would cannibalise it's sales! That's a strong word to throw around considering it's sales went up by 2.6m!

That was his theory.... Its good to have theories :)
He thought that PS4 would have much tougher competition this year (and it has), but it didnt really effect them much.

NSW ~13m?
XB1 ~7m?
PS4 ~20.2m

13+7 = 20m  vs PS4.
PS4 basically just did in a year what the other two did combinded.

Next year Switch should be up, by decent margin, so that won happend next year, but still... its impressive.

I think Gameboy Color did as well in 99 & 00.
