20.2m for 2017 nice. That's the first time a console has sold over 20m in a year since the DS in 2010.

Where's that irstupid guy! He called people delusional for expecting the ps4 to sell as well in 2017 as 2016 because the Switch/XBO X would cannibalise it's sales! That's a strong word to throw around considering it's sales went up by 2.6m!

That was his theory.... Its good to have theories :)
He thought that PS4 would have much tougher competition this year (and it has), but it didnt really effect them much.

NSW ~13m?
XB1 ~7m?
PS4 ~20.2m

13+7 = 20m  vs PS4.
PS4 basically just did in a year what the other two did combinded.

Next year Switch should be up, by decent margin, so that won happend next year, but still... its impressive.

People make the mistake of thinking Switch's success will have a negative affect on PS4 sales, when in reality it's not a ps4/xbo situation, they're too different. That it has no affect is proven by the PS4 doing so well this year despite the Switch launching and selling 13m+. Those 13m+ sales had seemingly zero affect on PS4 sales.

They're essentially not in competition, because Switch doesn't take sales away from PS4 and neither does PS4 take aways sales from the Switch.

PS4 has sold through to consumers more than 5.9 million units*1 during the 2017 holiday season.

PS4 has now cumulatively sold through more than 73.6 million units*2 globally as of December 31, 2017.

More than 55.9 million*3 PS4 games were sold during the 2017 holiday season in retail stores worldwide and through digital downloads on PlayStation®Store. This totals up to 645.0 million copies*4 cumulatively sold as of December 31, 2017.

VERY IMPRESSIVE. Gratulation @ the best Games-Console, PlayStation 4. And now, we have 2018 - the biggest Games-Year ever for the Player and Publisher. Good times < 3

End of march 2018.. 80 million units are possible, right ?

Shipped? Possible, forecast is 79m though and is likely where it will be.

Sold through? No chance. 76.5m would be fantastic.

That is a lot of sales... and the attach ratio keeps increasing.

But it won't reach 100M in 2018... And perhaps it can pass PS2 on total SW even with less consoles sold.

It did though...

We all thought it sold over 3m in November so November wasnt so great then

Sony Announced 70.4M for the end of November, so we already knew November sales... it was the best BF week ever for PS, and highest NPD ever for PS as well. So nothing "disappointing"

Fun fact: Sony have never released a home console that sold under 73m. What an achievement. The home console Kings.

Here's another - only Nintendo and Sony have ever sold 20 million units in a Calendar Year. PS2 (2003, 2004) and PS4 (2017) - Wii (2009, 2010).

Among consoles and HH Nintendo have managed some quite crazy years of HW sales.

Black friday was nuts, but they didnt have stock enough.....

December was weak, they wherent aggressive with bundles & prices.

If sony had wanted they probably could have ended this year another 2m higher or so.

yea seemed like they were happy with november and didn't want to sell the ps4 at a cheaper price. they should have went with the COD bundle instead of battlefront.

They should have went with a Horizon Zero Dawn Bundle but seems like they're doing alright regardless.

Gonna be close to 100M by the end of next year.

Easily spring, more likely. Or did you mean THIS year?! That’s definitely still possible..Spider-Man alone could make that happen.

To be honest i dont think that spiderman will move millions of units alone. But with all other titles coming this year and a price cut for the pro and ps4, i too think the ps4 can do 25+ millions

No chance.. MH is the only big title releasing till march, of course fc5 and ni no kuni 2 are releasing in march. But those 2 games will not have enough time to make a big impact for the last quarter of 2017

Didn’t have as strong of a holiday, but still a stronger year overall. Congrats Sony.

The limited stock for those 199,- PS4s definitely held them back. Plus many people planning to buy one last holiday, went for one of those BF deals, hence why December was a bit lower. Also don’t forget PSVR which also seemed quite popular.

There's a reason Sony run deals with limited stock or for a limited time and that's not to devalue the PS4 too much. Sony treat BF like it's the only time to get your hands on a super cheap PS4. Run the deals too long and you suffer a big slump going into the next year. Effectively you would just lose money to sell bigger amounts over the holiday.

There's a balance and I think Sony have mastered it over the last several years. MS haven't.
