You don't know what kind of legs the Switch will have. Next, the, "most of their system sellers", talk is nonsense. If you think it can't (or won't) get better than that, you haven't been paying attention, don't know the selling power of their properties, or willfully choose ignorance. Pick your poison. |
You also can't be sure, and the way you first phrased you are mostly certain Switch will outsell PS4 in USA.

Great! What's the trend that states, without a doubt, where Switch is headed in regards to the PS4? |
just looking at nintendo past home console sales. we can look at handhelds, but mobile tech didn't exist in the ds days, so it was a different market, it was the only form of good entertainment on the go. if people wanted nintedo games so bad why did n64, gamecube, and wiiu sell so little?

No one is sure, but yes, based on the current data, I expect Switch to outsell PS4 in the US. |
Expecting it is fair game (although I don't think it is much more than a 50/50 chance), was just the wording that gone more for certainty.
About the comparison between PS2 and PS4, PS4 as being more expensive would then be more impressive or you just used the card to dismiss the argument of price elasticity that consoles on the same gen the 100 less price on launch is relevant for the speed of sales?

The N64 sold "little"? News to me. As for the GameCube/Wii U (I see you conveniently skipped the Wii), those machines had other issues, but Nintendo's games were far from them. In fact, I don't even understand that suggestion. |
33 million compared 105 million to ps1 how is that not a small amount, it sold a very little amount ww, and half the amount of ps in north america, even with a much better start. i skipped the wii because it sold due to motion controls just like kinect. it didn't sell like traditional consoles it was a fad. my suggestions is games sell consoles right, and nintendo always had the games, but those consoles didn't sell.

The PS1 was an anomaly for its time. Didn't mean the 64 sold "little". Next, so your suggesting that the Switch is also a "fad", since it, too, isn't a "traditional console". How do those sell, exactly? |
nope switch is not a fad. its built on concept that has sold for many generations, console and handheld gaming combined. motion controls were a fad, wii and kinect were fads, and can't even sell 2 million consoles anymore based on those motion controlled games that were driving insane sales. i don't see how ps1 was anomaly, it's what people wanted and it's successor sold way more.

For the home console market size at it's time (~146M units), the N64 captured 22.5% of the market and it marked a bigger generational decrease (33%) compared to the SNES from NES ...
I would say quickrick has a point at least compared to the competition ...
Last edited by CGI-Quality - on 06 January 2018Switch sales in USA and Japan are great, but in Europe are disappointing.
I think people are overreacting to switch. I don't think its momentum will carry on long term but on the other hand because its not really a home console it could do well as a handheld let's wait and see
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk
really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I think the tracking is a bit off in some places.
Nintendo breaks down shipments into 3 regions.
Japan
Americas (North & South)
Others (Europe, Australia, Africa, rest of Asia)
Europe probably makes up close to 90% of Others and in each quarter Others has been right in between Japan & Americas.
Last update as of Sept 30
Japan-1.95m
Americas-3.11m
Others-2.56m
